Before and after 'good life' definitions

Apr 16, 2009 10:47

At the beginning of my 10-week course in Philosophy

Living a balanced life in which work, friends, love, leisure and a spiritual outlet (e.g. music) are the main ingredients.

By the end of the course

Making informed decisions through the use of practical and emotional wisdom. Practising kindness, compassion and courage. Working for both the necessary money to live comfortably and job satisfaction. Possessing hobbies. Making time for friends, family and romantic love. Entering a spiritual dimension on a regular, if infrequent, basis.* Breaking the mould.**

* A 'spiritual dimension' involves stepping away from one's ego. Music in a festival setting with like-minded people can act as a catalyst for this.
** By 'breaking the mould' I mean stepping out from the herd and not adhering to social conventions for their own sake.

Which do you prefer?
