Boulder Boulder

So I ran in the Boulder Boulder today on what really amounts to a last minute whim. I heard about preparations for it last night on the news and realized that I happened to have the day off and they had open day-of registration. So my dad is kind enough to drive me down to Boulder at about 6am (he's a morning person) and I ran in the fastest wave I could get in without a qualifying time (62-70min estimated finish time). I found that I ran A LOT slower in a pack full of people that were significantly slower then my usual running time. The first bit of the race was OK as the wave ahead of me had about a 5-10min head start but as soon as I hit the slower folk from the previous wave and we all mixed together into a big gelatinous mass of running it was hard to mentally keep myself running at my pace. Physically passing hundreds if not thousands of people that were running quite a bit slower than I was a bit of a challenge too.

I really did enjoy the experience and was glad I did it. There were a lot of people along the race handing out water, as well as many sanctioned (and some rather unsanctioned) music blaring along the course. It was crazy how many people there were there. Not only runners but volunteers as well. I chuckled at the rather popular beer station at the end of the run in Folsom field. Our registration tags bought us a free beer after the end of a 10k run...I wonder if they cancel each other out. Overall I am very much glad to have run the race. It was a great way to start the day and a fun event to be a part of.
