Closer to free

I realized today I only have two more weeks until my next vacation. That doesn't suck. Therefore, I made a bunch of doctor's appointments and one for a haircut for that week. I also hope we will be in line to hang some sheetrock in the downstairs room.

Speaking of remodeling, the dining room is done, save for some touch-up paint. It looks awesome. Pics to follow once we get it all back together.

In other news, feeling significantly less crap-like today. Still a bit blah but I'll pin that on the weather (40 and rainy all friggin' day).

I think I did this last year (and if not, definitely the year before) so I'm doing it again. Take a peek at holiday_wishes if you would.

STEP ONE
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I guess it's in my nature to bring a smile to someone's day - that's why I joined. :)

My list:

1. Anything lavender scented. The husband planted two lavender plants on either side of our steps and I can't wait to enjoy them in the spring. It's a very soothing scent to me, and goodness knows I could use some soothing!
2. A good hummus recipe. We go through a ton of the stuff and I'd love to make my own.
3. Anything from my Amazon wish list.
4. A new bag for work. I use this bag but what I carry for work is slowly outstripping its capacity. I'd prefer black and it needs to have a compartment I can zip (so I can leave valuables in it).
5. A hope chest/foot locker I can put at the foot of my bed and put sweaters in it, rather than using the ugly Rubbermaid crate I have them in now.
6. Someone to do my filing for me. I have a 3-foot high stack of articles waiting to be filed away.
7. An Ikea gift card. We need furniture and fun things for the house!
8. An Ann Taylor Loft gift card. I need clothes for work.
9. Tickets to a Red Sox game. Pipe dream, but I'll dream it anyway.
10. A new white coat for work. Mine's getting gross.

Chris and I did a little shopping today. I had some Pier 1 credit hanging around so we went and bought a bunch of candles (I highly recommend the cypress rose scent) and some new placemats and napkins for the dining room. We looked for a rug but couldn't agree on anything.

I should go read those two 25-page articles for tomorrow. Argh.
