Yes, exactly.

What other kind of food is there?

Food from worlds that are not Earth, of course.

There's no scientific evidence that any other planets but Earth have intelligent life. I'm not sure why I know that. So they probably don't have food, either.

[Inkblot; she's laughing.]

I'm afraid your evidence would have to be most compelling indeed to convince me of that fact.

I don't need evidence to prove something doesn't exist. It's more important to show proof that something does exist.

The universe is a lot bigger than people think, so it's pretty arrogant to think only Earth could have life, but it's very unlikely that any aliens have visited humans or kidnapped cows. So our only food is Earth food.

Yes, that is exactly my point.

[More inkblots.]

Perhaps the aliens were just extremely good at blending in, or perhaps humans merely overlooked their presence. But why would the aliens kidnap cows? That seems rather a cruel thing to do.

I don't think it is. Any food in the Wilderness is going to be Earth food because it's here.

It a question of fuel and propulsion and the time it would take to get to Earth from another solar system. I'm not sure about the cows, though. I can't really remember...I just feel like kidnapped cows have something to do with aliens, except they don't.

And here is Earth, is it?

Ah, you are judging your measurements no doubt on fuels and methods of propulsion Earth had at its disposal. How do you know other worlds might not have come up with other means, or had other materials they could use?

...I think the cow issue may be a red herring of sorts.

Well, it's definitely not Mars.

People can actually learn a lot about what's available elsewhere, even from far away! That's what I love about science. It never stops being interesting.

...I think it probably is.

It certainly isn't Earth. And I never said I was from Mars.

Yes, science is a never-ending field of study. You never know what you might discover.

I'm not sure about that. There are trees, animals, oxygen, people-it's pretty Earthlike. (Mars was just an example.)

Exactly!

Except the squirrels are the size of bears, and the tree is perhaps far too large. But still, I take your point.
