Synopsis: “Have you ever seen a snow butterfly?”
Comments: The story is in Aoi’s point of view.
It’s been a week since winter came and ever since-I’ve always seen this man with a blonde hair. He’s probably a bit younger than me judging by his beautiful face. He also looks rich because of the clothes he wears. I’ve never seen him in the neighborhood before but he looks really familiar.
It looks like he is searching for something. But I wonder what he is searching for.
Our neighborhood is only small and the population is even smaller. I bet that whatever or whoever he is searching for, he must’ve already found. But still I see him wondering about. I’ve been curious as to what he is really searching for. My neighbors have already noticed him too. I know they’re also curious but I bet they didn’t have the guts to ask. I can’t really blame them though. I don’t think I have the guts to ask him either.
Why?
Well, because he acts kind of weird.
Anybody can really have that impression on the blonde man. Especially since there are rumors spreading about him asking permission from people in my neighborhood if he can have a quick look at their gardens. Of course, I don’t really believe in rumors that easily. But one thing is for sure.
I’m really happy now that I don’t have a garden.
Besides, even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to take care of it.
Actually, I rarely come back here in my home now. My work is in Tokyo yet I live here in Mie. It’s really far away but I don’t have any choice. I don’t really have that much money. I actually came back this time to get some of my stuff and finally sell the place. I was only persuaded to do so by my friend. He was really nice enough to let me stay with him at his place back in Tokyo. But I already feel like I am bothering him even if he is not saying anything to me.
It’s almost night time now and yet the blonde man is still out and about. Doesn’t he feel cold at all? I wonder where he stays at.
I can’t control myself anymore. I’m too curious as to what this strange blonde man really is looking for.
I wrapped myself with the thickest jacket that I own and walked up to the blonde man. I sure hope he is Japanese like me. The odds of him being one are high though, considering that most Japanese people dye their hair these days.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you looking for something?” The blonde man turned to look at me. He seemed shocked to see me. I got a bit scared by the reaction he gave. Maybe I made a wrong choice of confronting the blonde man.
I was about to go back inside my house when I felt someone grab my hand.
“Wait!” It was my turn to stare at the blonde man. I looked at him straight in the eyes, urging him, waiting for him to say something else-something more.
“Will you go with me for a while?” I wasn’t really sure as to what the man’s motive is but something about him really attracted me. I’m really scared but also intrigued at the same time. But I have to be prepared nonetheless. He might look harmless but looks can be deceiving.
“Um… Sure. Where are we going?” I saw the man smile. He didn’t tell me where we’re going to go. He just gestured me to follow him. Of course, my instincts told me I shouldn’t.
“Do not be scared. I promise I won’t hurt you or anything.” His voice sounded really calm and convincing. If anything goes wrong, I’ll be able to defend myself anyway.
I was, after all, trained to do so-before.
I followed the man. It wasn’t long until we reached this certain spot where people used to have a picnic on during spring. He sat under a tree while I just stood up.
“Is there something you need from me?” I asked nervously. He only smiled and signaled me to go sit beside him. Once I settled myself next to him, he began to talk.
“I just wanted to ask you something.” I raised one of my eyebrows as I stared at him. If he wanted to ask me something, he could’ve already asked it earlier. He didn’t have to take me here.
“Have you ever seen a snow butterfly?” He sounded really curious. I smiled a bit. I thought he sounded like a child. He noticed my smile though.
“You must think my question is odd.” To be honest, I did. But I guess he completely misunderstood the reason why I’m smiling.
“No. It’s not that.” He just stared at me. I noticed then that he was waiting for me to answer his question.
“I don’t really think a snow butterfly exists.” He frowned at my answer. He looked somewhat crushed.
“But that’s probably because I haven’t seen one yet!” I exclaimed. Of course I didn’t want to disappoint the man even though he’s a stranger to me.
“Just because you don’t see something, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.” I wanted to ask him if he believes that snow butterflies exist. Maybe that’s what he’s been searching for this whole time. Suddenly, I don’t think that what he is looking for is easy to find after all.
“I believe that there’s a snow butterfly. It’s just that maybe nobody discovered it yet.” I wonder if he is implying something else behind his belief for the existence of a snow butterfly.
“Well, it’s already late. I’m sorry for taking some of your time.” He smiled. It might’ve been just me, but I believe I saw his eyes sparkle.
“It’s alright. I enjoyed myself though.” He seemed very pleased at my answer as he grinned at me.
“Can I see you here again tomorrow?” I gave him a small nod then he left. I certainly wish to see him again tomorrow.
Tomorrow came by fast and I went back to the picnic spot where I spent time with the blonde man. I was really sad that I didn’t see the blonde man there. I also had this feeling that I won’t be seeing him here soon.
Despite not seeing the blonde man, I did spot something under a tree. It was a paper bag. I assumed that this came from the blonde man.
I opened the paper bag and reached inside it. My hand first came in contact with something cool. I pulled the thing out of the paper bag.
It was a butterfly enclosed in a thin glass. It had wings almost as white as…
Snow.
But of course, it doesn’t mean that it’s a snow butterfly. I wasn’t even sure if butterflies come out during the winter season. However, it was enough to make me smile and think.
Maybe there is a snow butterfly somewhere.
I checked to see if there’s something else inside the paper bag. It so happens that there is something else in the paper bag but it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting to see.
A book. And it’s not any ordinary book either. It is the book I’ve held so dear a very long time ago. But I never got it back ever since that incident happened. Although, it occurred to me that only one person knew what the book meant to me. This person who I treasured just as much.
Kouyou.
Author's Notes: This fic actually turned out to be better than I expected~ XD I actually liked how it turned out. It's even longer that the prologue of "To BLeed With You".
Speaking of "To Bleed With You", I'm sorry I haven't updated that fic yet! Please don't shoot me! I'm actually having a hard time putting my ideas for chapter one in to words >_< so I came up with this fic instead! BUT this fic can actually be RELATED to "To Bleed With You" *wink wink* You'll never know XD
I dedicate this fic to all the people who are actually reading my works. But I would really like to give special thanks to
syzygy_lestat Thanks to her, I actually got motivated to come up with something even if it meant pressuring myself. It's actually a good thing though. Whenever I am pressured, I get to come up with ideas XD BUT SADLY, I GET IDEAS AND MOTIVATION AROUND 12am and so on. PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I HAVE ERRORS HERE!! I FINISHED THIS AT 3:40 am TT-TT
Comments are LOVE!!!! ♥ I really appreciate it if you leave a comment!
