Now we're halfway through Act Two...

Took parentals to New Wimbledon Theatre to see Spamalot for dad's birthday pressie. (added plug for quite a decent, reasonably priced Italian - Casa Nostra opposite the theatre)

SCORE. They laughed themselves stupid.

Much, much cut down cast-wise (only two girl dancers) and to say the costumes look a bit cheap in places is an understatement. But aside from that? Great use of staging, props and costumes. Cast great. Marcus Brigstocke was off so we got his understudy, who was wonderfully haughty and had great timing, as well as a good singing voice. (there's a great bit near the end where he goes 'Well done, Peasant - don't touch me.') Jodie Prenger was fabulous as the lady of the lake, doing full-on diva. Todd Carty is brilliant at physical comedy and injured looks as Patsy. The gay song? Still. Does. Not. Work. Dad : '...it's really dated.' However, good change : 'You Can't Succeed on Broadway if You Don't Have Any Jews', which was funny but really confusing for anyone who wasn't from New York. West End audiences tended to sit there with a 'huh?' expression. Now been replaced by 'You Can't Succeed in Showbiz if You Don't Have Any Stars'. Which is more versatile and full of name-drops (currently Jedward, Michael Flatley, and Susan Boyle) - and is their version of 'I've Got a Little List' (Mikado, point of honour to change the lyrics to reflect all things topical every show). So we got jokes about Fergie charging to see Prince Andrew, jokes about Wimbledon, and a sniffy line about Marcus Brigstocke not being a big deal. Snerrrrrrk.

...okay, result of someone with a big flist reccing your story. Posted fic a couple of days ago, got about 7 or so comments from mates and people on the comm I posted it to. (Narnia fandom is rather small.) Then it got recced by a mate, and one of her mates recced it in turn. So I wake up this morning to a flood of the things. I, er, I'm sure other people have written fic about parents' reaction to how the kids changed after Narnia. :muses: mebbe I just managed to hit at the right time. Reminds me, must poke bedlamsbard into posting some of her parents reactions (I love that a couple of commenters have referred to us as the writers of psycho Pevensies. Hers are far more psycho and complex with massive world-building than mine. They're not psycho, they're just medieval rulers.) Way too many of her awesome ideas only exist in the comments, so I forget she hasn't posted them as complete stories.

Finally finished watching Sarah Connor Chronicles. Final scene? Oh FSM, the sheer jawdrop and amazing set-up for S3 that never was... :has tantrum:
