For sheer lack of wardrobe I didn't want to attend. As though any attempt at fitting in would leave me looking like Cheryl Brooks straight out of the dime store, I didn't even want to make an attempt. Maybe one day I'll own something appropriate. Until then, I'm just there for the music. I love the Jax Symphony Orchestra...
I don't think I truly 'get' it yet. The first time I went I almost fell asleep after intermission. This past week was KHACHATURIAN's Piano Concerto, then RIMSKY-KORSAKOV's Scheherazade. 1001 nights! It may be childish, but it was enchanting to follow the story of each movement. It gave the music meaning I haven't been able to give it on my own yet.
I was sad we didn't make it to the river. The symphony venue is right on the St. John's river at the center of downtown. I just can't get enough of the city, the bridges. Afterwards we made feta stuffed chicken, steamed broccoli, baked potatoes and a bottle of merlot chosen at random. I'll take a good beer over wine any day of the week.
