"REBIRTH OF THE PIXIES"

Sep 04, 2004 14:03

It's so weird (I know this is pretty random), that the Pixies are everywhere these days. They are touring again (Hope I get to see them), they have a new DVD (that I got 2 weeks ago) and they are on the cover of Spin. 7 or 8 years ago I found two cassettes at a garage sell two houses down from my dad's house (where I was living at the time.) The covers were different then anything I was listening to at the time (minus Sonic Youth.) I was into alot of college rock/Indie rock at the time as well as punk and they seemed much more than that when I picked them up. They were 25 cents apiece but me and my dad split the cost for the whole thing. But out of everything those two cassettes stood out for me. They were "Doolittle" and "Bossanova". I listened to those tapes like everyday on my way to school and work on my headphones. Nobody else ever said to me "oh yeah I like the Pixies they kick ass." They were my band and still are in my top 3 of favorites (w/ Pink Floyd and Nirvana). A couple of years later my mom bought me "Doolittle" and "Surfer Rosa" on CD, and I ended up picking up "Bossanova" and "Trompe Le Monde" myself. When I started hanging out with Sam again when he was in the Spits (later recame the Runs, where I ended up playing bass) I became friends with Ryan, and he was just a big fan of the Pixies as I was, and a year later we were covering "Holiday Song". To me it was awesome to me that somebody loves them as much as I do. Over the years since I bought the first two I ended up buying all the studio recordings but they were later stolen (out of all my CD's they were the hardest to deal with losing.) I ended up picking "Surfer Rosa" up again when I bought the DVD and the band is still as revelant to me as ever. It's good to see they are getting attention again and seeing how many people are actually into them. But I'll always remember me picking them up at the garage sell and listening to them religiously all those years ago. I hope I get to see them if play around here. That would be my greatest concert ever.

Well I'm out, TTYL LJ'ers
