The Captain of the Sixth Division was unsure how to react when this…strange, strange girl wound her way onto his, well, path.
Okay, to be serious, he was walking along one of the outside paths by the walls of Seireitei when he stumbled across (well, Byakuya never really stumbled, he saw the body before-hand so it was rather obvious from where he was-you get it) the body on the path that he was walking on.
Walking where? Well, really, the other wasn’t going anywhere in particular. He was simply taking a long walk. It’d been rather stressful today, you know, with Abarai-fukutaichou being a pain in the neck, as well as other drama at ‘work.’
So, yes, before going home a walk would be nice to clear his thoughts as well as to get some fresh air. Except, his walk was interrupted by something that…really, most would not expect.
A sniffle was heard and the body squirmed, clearly showing life. …Well, as much life as one could expect from someone in Soul Society.
Byakuya hesitated, again, unsure of how to react. What was a girl doing here? In fact, it was a strange girl-a girl in slightly strange garb…her long raven black hair flowing around her face.
“May I ask, who are you, exactly?”
She seemed rather startled by the other, her body visibly twitching and then tensing up, curling into a little ball before…she looked up at the tall man (from her point of view he was tall, but again, though she was short naturally, she was on the floor which didn’t help matters at all) and was unsure as well. Should she be frightened? Or…well, glad?
“I’m…I’m Sohee.”
Byakuya was sure that this girl was odd. She had weird names, weird clothes, and…well. Maybe she was new, and had wound her way into Seireitei somehow? That…didn’t quite make sense, but, he brushed it off.
“Kuchiki Byakuya, at your service.” He was intrigued by the other girl, he couldn’t help it. He bent slightly, offering her a hand.
The girl eyed the hand, clearly unsure of whether to take it or not when suddenly…she smiled a bit, seeing Byakuya’s smile, and took the hand gladly, pulling herself up.
Byakuya was uncomfortable when he pulled the other up. Surely, she weighed far less than his sister, Rukia did. And that…that uncomforted him. That the girl was so skinny.
Sohee raised her hands up to rub at her face, long sleeves drooping. Another sniffle was heard. “Thank you…I should get going now.” She turned around and attempted to leave, folding her hands in front of her, long hair flowing behind her.
And suddenly, Byakuya reached out and grabbed her elbow (or, rather, the clothing part where her elbow would be) and held her, and of course she stopped where she was, too nervous to even look at the other. “No, don’t leave…” He said, quietly, staring at her back. “Where do you belong, anyway?”
“I…I don’t know. I can’t…can’t remember.” She said, embarrassed, her cheeks flushing oh-so-slightly, accenting her pale face. “I just…woke up, here…with…with you.” She breathed that last part out, trying to ignore the trembling of her legs and arms. And, oh, god, he was still touching her.
Byakuya let out a slight sigh, watching her, pitying her. “I’ll...take care of you, until you find out where you belong.” He said, simply, letting go of her once he was sure that she was not going to run away.
“…I’d appreciate that, you know.”

And so, a week passed in Soul Society time. Sohee wasn’t as thin as before, being taken care of by Byakuya, just like he told her she would. Everyone took kindly to the woman; even Renji did without fuss, which was slightly strange of the other.
“Ah…Byakuya?” Sohee asked, one morning, as she peered into his room. Craving his company for some reason. As she had been, and the feeling just kept…growing, over this past week.
“Yes?” He was doing paperwork that needed to be done, Renji busy with other things that Byakuya had ordered him to do.
“What if…what if…” She obviously was having a hard time talking about it, and the thought made a dark blush rise to her cheeks.
“Hm?” He prompted, stopping the paperwork as he turned to look at her, giving her his full attention.
“What if I think I belong…with you?” She whispered, staring up at him, hands raised as she put her slightly folded hands in front of her mouth, a nervous habit of hers.
It seemed like a long time before Byakuya answered, thinking his words over before…
“That’d be fine with me.”
And he turned back to his paperwork, hiding a smile.
