my dad is 87 years old today
he was with the Canadian division that landed in Sicily and coming up against experienced German troops developed the techniques in house to house fighting that are still in use today as they moved up through Italy and broke the final defense at Ortona through extreme heavy fighting over Christmas 1944
the term was used derisively in a comment made about the soldiers fighting outside of the European theatre of war but i am proud to say my dad was a "D-Day dodger"
