WARNING!!!
This is a Political Rant...I'm putting it behind a cut to preserve your sanity...
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/obama.veterans/index.html#cnnSTCText This is what really has me steamed...
http://www.va.gov/about_va/vahistory.asp This is the History of our country's care for it's Veterans...it is not complete but it gives you an Idea of the sacred trust we as Veteran's were told when we left service...
now my Politics are best described as Financially and Military Conservative and Social Moderate...there are a few things I hold deep in my Heart and one of them is the responsibility of the Government to care for it's VOLUNTEERS that serve the Country's Defense...
One thing that this latest Idea of the President's has made me believe more firmly than ever...is that if you WANT to be Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces...SERVE!!! Our last 2 Democrat Presidents did not serve in any of the Armed Forces in any capacity other than CinC of the Armed Forces...
Robert A. Heinlien ( USNA 1929 ) decisively ended his juvenile novels with Starship Troopers (1959), a controversial work and his personal riposte to leftists calling for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to stop nuclear testing in 1958. "[Heinlein] called for the formation of the Patrick Henry League and spent the next several weeks writing and publishing his own polemic that lambasted 'Communist-line goals concealed in idealistic-sounding nonsense' and urged Americans not to become 'soft-headed'. ... Critics labeled Heinlein everything from a Nazi to a racist."
"'The "Patrick Henry" ad shocked 'em,' he wrote many years later. "Starship Troopers outraged 'em."
Starship Troopers is a coming-of-age story about duty, citizenship, and the role of the military in a free society [26] The book envisions a society in which suffrage was given only to those who earned it through service to the nation, usually through military service (Critics often suggest in error as if it were the only form of service). Though recruits could state preferences, the choice of service was entirely at the government's discretion -- it could result in intelligence work, diplomatic corps, or bureaucratic functions... but military service was far and away the most common; furthermore, the government could not refuse any volunteer the opportunity to serve. The only consequence of failing to successfully complete one's term of service was permanent inability to vote. The primary explanation for the 'service as a prerequisite to the franchise' approach was that it resulted in a higher level of responsibility (from society's perspective) in those who cared enough to complete a term of service not under their control or influence (eg, money, social status, political pull, etc).[27][28] Furthermore, only veterans received the franchise; during their term of service, volunteers were not eligible.
another thing that Hienlein gave us was TANSTAAFL is an acronym for the adage "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" originating in the 1940s and later popularized by science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein in his 1966 novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress,[1][2] which discusses the problems caused by not considering the eventual outcome of an unbalanced economy. This phrase and book are popular with libertarians and is often seen in economics textbooks. In order to avoid slang the acronym "TINSTAAFL" (There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) is sometimes used < Ganked yet again from Wikipedia>
Basically what I am saying is that the President does not have the Right to decide what is best for those that willingly serve their Country and get injured in the Line of Duty should have to use their own Private Insurance to pay for the Injuries that they received in the service of the Country...also Veteran's Unemployment is 10 points Higher across the board than Non-Veterans...and if this bill gets signed into Law it means that Companies are going to be unwilling to place the Veteran under the Companies Insurance since the Premiums will be higher because the Veteran has a Service-Connected Injury...
Think what you will of my Politics but understand that as a Veteran I have rights too...
