Chapter One
Even now as Sonny Monroe stared out over New York City from her hotel room in the sky she still couldn't believe everything that had happened in the last month. It still felt like yesterday, when in reality it was a week, that she was hanging out in the prop house with Tawni, Nico, and Grady making fun of "Mackenzie Falls" when in reality she had a love/hate relationship with the star of said show Chad Dylan Cooper. Though Sonny couldn't be certain if she if it was the love or the hate she had found more exciting. Sonny blamed this lapse of memory on the fact that Sonny and the others had barely left their hotel room unless it was for rehearsal or publicity stints. Or more specifically Sonny's room, which had suddenly turned into the New York version of the prop house.
"Hey Sonny," Grady said, interrupting Sonny's thoughts, "We're gonna order some room service do you want anything?"
Sonny sighed as she dropped onto the couch next to Tawni. After a week of nothing but either room service or fancy dinner party foods Sonny was beginning to get tired of fancy. She just wanted some good old fashioned fast food.
"Aren't you tired of all this fanciness yet?" Sonny complained.
"I think the better question is why are you tired of it?" Nico said.
"I agree," Grady said, as he quickly sided with Nico.
Sonny turned to glance at her roommate Tawni Heart for support. Except Tawni just shrugged her shoulders and Sonny had to wonder how she could ever think Tawni would support anything that didn't involve herself.
"Well I'm gonna go find something greasy," Sonny said as she stood up.
"There isn't anything like that on the menu and they told us not to leave the hotel without someone coming with us," Zora reminded her.
"Well none of you want to come so I'm gonna have to go by myself," Sonny told them, even though she knew that wasn't what Zora meant.
Sonny headed towards her bed side table and grabbed her bag and her sun glasses. Nobody said anything else as she headed towards the door. She was quickly realizing that the others had left their adventurous sides back in the prop room in Hollywood. Sonny pulled on her hoodie as she headed out of the room. She figured if she was going to break the rules she wasn't about to get caught doing something wrong in only her first week there.
Sonny was surprised how easy it was to get passed the paparazzi without being noticed. Her disguise wasn't all that good. It was only a Paramore hoodie and a pair of sun glasses. Yet it had fooled the paps.
She quickly headed down the street glad no one was staring at her strange attire. She had been in air conditioning for so long she had forgotten how hot it had been lately. Especially when one was wearing a hoodie which was designed to keep one warm during the cold months. But Sonny just tugged the material closer to her skin as she ignored the sun that was burning a hole in her back.
Her only mission in life was to find the nearest McDonalds and get the greasiest thing she could find. She was able to ignore how hot she was if she had a goal in mind.
"Is that Sonny Monroe?" Sonny hears someone say pretty loudly.
Sonny quickly abandoned her mission as she dashed into the very next store front without looking. She could have been headed into a crack house for all she knew. But as long as she wasn't spotted she didn't seem to care. Sonny loved her fans dearly but she hated the fact they though they had the right to always walk up to her. Even when it was obvious she was in the middle of something serious.
Sonny quickly realizes she had stumbled upon some kind of restaurant when she noticed all the tables. There weren't many people around which led Sonny to believe it wasn't a chain restaurant like McDonalds or Wendy's or even Dominos. Sonny took a seat at a table by a window. She quickly scanned the area to see if the person had called in the tip to the paparazzi or if they were just waiting for her to come back outside. Sonny suddenly realized she should have listened to the others and stuck with the room service food because she suddenly realized how easy it was for her to get caught breaking the rules. She was still a minor after all. At least for another couple months that is.
"Are you gonna eat or just keep staring out the window?" a voice said breaking Sonny out of her thoughts.
Sonny tore her gaze away from the window finally happy she didn't see anyone outside who could threaten her exposure and she turned to the person speaking. She found a girl about her own age. She carried a pad of paper for orders so Sonny assumed she Ed there but the rest of her screamed that she would rather be someone else.
"What is there to eat?" Sonny asked, after a moment.
"Sandwiches, duh!" the girl said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, "You came into a sandwich shop what did you expect pizza?"
Then a chuckle erupted from the girl as she laughed at her own joke. The laughter caused a smile to spread across Sonny's lips.
"I didn't really look when I came I was kind of..." Sonny's words trailed off as she glanced out the window.
Her entire body froze when she spotted a man across the street looking through the windows in the shops on the other side. He grasped a camera in his hands as if he had it at the ready to take a picture.
"They're so going to fire me," Sonny muttered.
"The man with the camera?" The girl asked, as she leaned down next to Sonny to see where she was looking.
Sonny glanced beside her and saw the confused look that crossed the other girls features. She briefly forgot about her troubles as she noticed how adorable the other girl looked. Then she realized what she had asked Sonny.
"Not him exactly, but he'll get me fired if he finds me," Sonny replied as she turned her attention to the man just in time to see him crossing the street.
The girl grabbed Sonny's arms and pulled her off of her seat. Surprise crossed Sonny's features as she was dragged away toward a stair case on the other side of the restaurant.
"Well we can't let that dude get you in trouble," the other girl told her.
"You know who I am?" Sonny asked, surprised even though she knew her disguise wasn't the greatest.
The other girl shook her head before telling Sonny to head up the stairs because thats where she lives. Sonny could only nod briefly before heading up the stairs like she had been told. She couldn't understand how someone could help her without knowing who she was. When they got to the top of the stairs the waitress opened a door and led Sonny into the living room of an apartment.
"Why are you helping me if you don't know me?" Sonny asked.
"Why did you let a stranger pull you up to their apartment?"
Sonny had to admit she had her there. They were both taking a chance on the other.
"I guess we will just have to stop being strangers then," Sonny said as she pulled off her hood and her sunglasses, "My name is Sonny Monroe."
"No wonder you were hiding from the man with the camera. My name is Alex. Alex Russo."
Alex stuck out her hand and Sonny shook her outstretched hand. An amused expression crossed her features.
"What?" Alex asked, confused at how amused the other girl was.
"Who are you James, James Bond?" Sonny chuckled.
Sonny's laughter was contagious as Alex joined in as well once she realized that Sonny had been referring to the way that she had introduced herself. She rolled her eyes and motioned for her to follow her into the kitchen.
"So what are you doing out here on Waverly?" Alex asked.
"I was actually looking for something to eat," Sonny admitted, "I was getting tired of fancy food. I haven't been out of the hotel really since we got to New York a week ago."
Alex turned back towards Sonny as she pulled the fridge door open.
"I'm surprised you lasted that long," Alex told her.
"Me too," Sonny quickly agreed, "I don't think I really noticed though. We've been so busy with rehearsals, meetings, and press events that I haven't really had much free time."
Alex kicked the door to the fridge closed and turned around to reveal an arm ful of junk food to Sonny. She came back over to the island table where Sonny was sitting and dropped everything onto the table. Sonny's eyes took a once over of the table as she surveyed what had been brought over. She saw packets of mini chocolate donuts, reeses peanut butter cups, chocolate cookies, a bag of chips, and pickles. When the last item registered in her mind she her eyes quickly darted back to the item.
"Pickles?" Sonny asked.
"Yup," Alex said, as she opened the jar to take one out for herself, "They're amazing."
She held the jar out to Sonny once she had taken her own. Sonny had never been a huge pickle fan but for some reason she felt the urge to take one from the jar Alex held out for her. She took a bite and tasted the juice as it gushed out. For a moment she felt dejavu as she sat at the table with Alex munching on pickles. She couldn't understand why she was getting the feeling because she had never seen Alex before let alone shared a pickle. But for some reason she felt as if this had all happened before.
"Hey Alex?" Sonny suddenly said, and continued when she saw that she had the other girls attention, "Have you ever had a dejavu feeling with someone you just met?"
Alex shook her head no, but her eyes said another thing all together. Her eyes almost agreed with what Sonny had said. Sonny didn't push it further because she did not know Alex all the well to begin with. She wasn't about to push her into admitting something she didn't want to talk about. She briefly wondered if Alex even knew her eyes contradicted the no she had orginally answered with. Then Sonny wondered how she even knew her eyes said another thing. She had only just met Alex. How could she already be able to tell what the other girl was thinking? Sonny was really confused so instead of bringing it up anymore she just continued to munch on her pickle.
