If looks could kill than Nicholas Jonas would surely have been struck dead where he stood. Demetria “Demi” Lovato was practically burning holes in him with her eyes. Of all the people who were in attendance that evening, he had been the last person she had expected to find there. Especially, after what he had done to her. Had he forgotten just who he was dealing with? Demi would have expected the boy to be half way around the world by now. Instead, he stood fearlessly a mere few feet from her, laughing about something someone had said. It was almost like he was taunting her. As if he was just asking her to come throttle him, or worse. Demi briefly considered the possibility that maybe he had been dropped as a baby on his head. For she could not possibly believe anyone could be that stupid.

Demi made her way over to the boy calmly. It was now up to her to teach him the error of his ways. He must have noticed her approach for he attempted to casually go in the opposite direction. Demi signaled one of her lacky’s, who effectively cut off his escape.

“Good Evening Nicholas.”

Her voice was eerily calm, which caused the exact response in Nick she had been hoping for. Nick trembled slightly as a chill ran up and down his spine. The fleeting look of fear and guilt crossed his features. With just three words Demi had the boy practically wetting himself. However, she was not going to be done there. She would not be finished until he was on his knees pleading for forgiveness. He would be pleading for his life. And Demi had yet to decide if that would be spared. She had to make sure no one double crossed her like this ever again. He was to be made an example of.

“Good Evening Demi,” Nick greeted, with a forced smile, “And you may call me Nick.”

Demi had to give credit to the boy somewhere. At least he had been smart enough to call her by her nickname. She rarely let anyone call her Demetria. Only a very select few were able to use that name. He’d managed to use his head for once to avoid some unnecessary punishment.

“How have you been Nicky Boy,” Demi smirked, “I hear you’ve been having a wonderful time down time.”

Nick’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. He got that ‘deer caught in a headlight’ expression. Except, unlike the deer Nick not only understood exactly what the danger was, but he also knew that it would not be quick and painless like a car. It would be slow and painful. Demi’s reputation exceeded her. She was known throughout New York City for how cold hearted she was. Even the police knew of her existence, but only by the name ‘The Ice Queen’. She was not only cold hearted, but she was very careful with everything she did. Her speakeasies had been raided many times, in many different locations, but nothing would ever come out of the raids. They would never find anything incriminating. All they found were a group of people listening to piano music while they danced around sipping on coffee and eating pastries.

“I…I…”

Nick just could not seem to find the right words that would fix the situation. He knew he was screwed. He knew he was in trouble. There was no way Demi was going to let him go for something this big. Nick subconsciously took a small step back, effectively bumping into the lackey that stood behind him. Demi’s sneer had disappeared and was replaced by anger.

“Did you honestly think you could turn me into the fuzz and expect me not to hear about it?” Demi snapped, in a low voice.

Nick nervously glanced around the room as if he were looking for something. Demi had not thought of it at the time. Usually those she confronted like this did not want others to know what they had done. Either that or they did not wish to be publicly beaten. Not that it happened frequently. The stories of those who had decided to double cross her had gotten around and had deterred others doing the same.

“Maybe we should m-move this i-into a-another m-m-more private place,” Nick managed to stutter out.

Demi smirked. One of her guesses had been correct. But then she noticed him peeking at a girl from across the room. It all became clear to her suddenly. Nick did not want his lover to see him either get tortured or killed. Demi didn’t blame him. The girl was absolutely stunning. She wore a flowing black silk dress and a pearl necklace. She was standing near the bar laughing with a few of the other women.

“Any particular reason Nicky Boy?” Demi smirked, before she turned her attention back on him. “Don’t want that lovely lady over at the bar to see me hurt you?”

“Please!” Nick pleaded.

A thought suddenly popped into his head. She knew how she would get back at Nick. She was going to make sure she stole everything from him. And when everything was gone and he had nothing left to live for, that’s when she’d be satisfied. She leaned closer to him so that her lips were right next to his left ear.

“Don’t worry Nicky Boy,” Demi whispered, “I won’t hurt you… physically that is.”

Backing away Demi watched as a confused look crossed his features. The only punishment she had ever doled on traitors. This was a completely new form of punishment. It would probably never be used again. This was a special circumstance. Demi gave her lackey the signal to remove Nick from the premises.

“Now if you’ll excuse me Nicky Boy I have a lady to see about.”

Demi did not wait to hear Nick’s response. Instead she immediately spun around and headed towards the bar. Her lackey grabbed a hold of Nick and was able to drag him from the building. Not without resistance though. Demi could not help but laugh when Nick exclaimed that she should beat him or kill him, but to leave Selena out of it. Well, now Demi had a name. She really could believe that Nick was stupid now.

As Demi walked across the room, everyone seemed to stop what they were doing to say hello to her. She was not surprised since she was the reason all of these people even had a chance to get together like this. However, seeing as she already had her eyes set on someone these people held very little interest to the mobster. Demi sauntered over to the bar, the confidence she held rolling off of her in waves. She slid in between Selena and the girl that she was speaking too. Her grin spreading across her face, she held out her hands.

“I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure of meeting,” Demi grinned, “My name is Demetria.”
Demi heard the girl behind her gasp, before making a speedy exit. She had not expected any less. It was very rare that Demi introduced herself by her full name. And when it did it was for two very different reasons. Either she really liked the person, which was a rarity, or the person was headed for a world of trouble.

Selena took her outstretched hand and supplied her own name. Selena was not aware that Demi already knew exactly who she was. Demi signaled to the bartender, who quickly abonded his currently customer to attend to her.

“What can I get for you?” he asked.

“I’ll have a martini,” replied Demi, before she motioned for Selena to answer as well.

“Same please.”

The bartender disappeared to fill their drink requests. Selena went into her small handbag to get some money from her drink, but Demi grabbed her hand kindly to stop her progress.

“Don’t worry Sel,” Demi said smiling, “You don’t need to worry about buying your drinks when you’re here.”

A surprised look crossed Selena’s features. It was then that Demi realized that Selena honestly had no idea who she was. That was something that was very rare. Everyone seemed to know who she was. That included the police, but it was not as if they could actually touch her. Not without the evidence they always seemed to be lacking.

“Are you sure?” Selena asked.

Demi nodded.

“I’m positive.”

The bartender came back and handed them their drinks. Demi only took hers and motioned for Selena to follow her. If Selena had noticed that Demi had not paid for their drinks either, she had not mentioned it.

“How about we get out of here,” Demi suggested, “I know there is a private party going on downstairs.”

Selena nodded. Demi could see the recognition in her eyes over the private party. That room was known to all. Only a select few were every invited to attend that party. It was also the very same place that Demi would hide any of her incriminating evidence when they were to be raided. It was why the police had not found anything upon raiding her club with the information that Nick had given them. Demi nodded towards one of her “employees” to take over the front while she was away. They headed over to a wall.

“This is a wall Demetria,” Selena told her, as if it were not the most obvious thing in the world.

Demi nodded, before knocking on it in a certain pattern. The wall swung open revealing that it had actually been a secret door. Demi motioned for Selena to enter first. She did not realize that her entire life was about to change in one evening.
