Mei smiled quickly back at him, but it took her a bit longer to figure out what he said. "Oh, do not worry about it." When he began to search for something, she realized rather quickly what he must have been looking for and nabbed him a tissue from the box she had brought. "Here," she offered, grinning at him. Though she didn't really think about, Meimei felt rather chivalrous helping her friend; it gave her a purpose and though it was a bit of work, she didn't mind it in the least.
The next thing he said did very well to confuse her. Knitting her brow. Mei started at him as she tried to decipher his words, only catching the ones that had been properly pronounced. "No," she said finally. "I will stay." Upon arriving, she had seen all of the tissues scattered about the room, and she now stood to pick them up. She scooped them up without hesitation, neither caring nor realizing that they were snotty tissues. She tossed them all in the bin, dragging that over beside his bed. "There," she declared with a smile.
Mei stood with her hands on her hips, feeling helpful and perhaps too wonderful. "What are doing with that," she nodded to his book, quirking at brow at him. Indeed, they had Physics shortly, but he was ill. He wasn't really trying to catch up on the reading was he?

When he first thanked her, she smiled happily his way, continuing to clean up around him room without even thinking. She had always been taught to be tidy, and it seemed the logical thing to do once she had taken care of the tissues. However, when he thanked her again, Mei stopped cleaning and stood up to get a better look at him. "You do not have to thank me," she said sweetly. For a moment, she was tempted to begin naming off all of things he did for her, but he already knew all of that. Plus, she did like being appreciated.
At the explanation of what he was doing with his book, Mei stopped short, trying her best to listen to him. Unfortunately, it was just as incoherent the second time around as it had been the first time and she stood, puzzled, for quite a little while. "A pop quiz?" she said finally, having sat down next to him on the bed. Picking up the wastebasket, she offered it to him so he could throw away his tissue, she thought for a moment more before adding resolutely, "We won't have a pop quiz."
Her heart grew heavy as she realized she could not read him what he wanted. Jacob was the one who usually helped her along with the words; she would be positively hopeless on her own and would probably end up confusing the both of them. Sighing quietly, she took the book from him as he began pulling the tray over him and set it at the end of his bed. Perhaps he would forget about that nonsense. Perking up again when he spoke, Mei clearly got this message. "Yep! Chicken noodle!" Her eyes widened at a horrible thought, and she asked carefully, "You want chicken and rice?"

His awkwardness and clumsiness was all in his appeal really. He wasn't perfect, and that made him the "perfect" friend. He was always there for her, and it seemed all he expected in return was her to be there for him. And sometimes, considering he didn't expect her to take care of him when he was sick, he didn't even expect that.
"You already know everything," she consoled, trying her best to make the topic of Physics vanish. It was such a downing subject and he was already sick, as if they needed homework to bog them down any farther. Mei understood that he liked to learn and he loved knowledge, but now was just not the time. It is hard to heal when you overexert yourself! "I should be the one studying," she said jokingly, trying to lighten things up; though even if her words didn't succeed, perhaps the bright smile on her face would.
Comforted that he didn't mind chicken noodle, Mei tried to make herself useful but couldn't see how to go about that, and instead just stayed and watch him attempt to eat his soup. Attempt being the operative word, because before she knew it he was sneezing and the soup was spilling. Mei jumped up, rather surprised by everything, and looked around frantically. However, when he started apologizing, she felt simply horrible. "Oh," she said softly, "it's alright."
In all of the hubbub, Mei didn't notice that he had taken his shirt off. As she stood, tray in hands, she stopped suddenly at the sight of him half-naked. Blinking once or twice, Mei tried her very best to continue on unfazed. It wasn't as if that had been the first time she'd seen him in such a state! But somewhere, something hit a nerve and she suddenly felt the urge to busy herself with something. Anything, at that point. "I put this righ-" she started, a sudden idea popping into her head and cutting her words off.
"I forgot I brought this!" she said, making her way over to him after setting everything down and pulling a small jar from her pocket. "For your nose," she mumbled, distracted by getting the cover off. Scooping a bit of the green, semi-translucent paste onto her finger, she attempted to get at his chest, despite his attempts to fight her off. "Let me," she implored earnestly, "you no want this on your fingers."

Mei had nearly drifted off into another one of her dream-like states when he began apologizing. She quickly turned her attention back to him, suddenly feeling horrible. Oh! She hadn't meant to guilt him! It wasn't as if it was his fault that he had gotten sick and he shouldn't have felt like he needed to help her constantly anyway. Just because he did help her constantly didn't make it his job. "Oh," she started, sounding rather lost. It was times like these where she wished English didn't fail her; she didn't know how to tell him that he didn't need to be sorry without making it sound as though she didn't appreciate him. Stumbling over the words in her head, she said finally after he promised to help her, "Do not worry."
Mei had not been expecting Jacob to mention Hector, so when he did, it caught her off-guard. "Uhh," she floundered, trying to remember. After a moment, she considered how many times she had fed him in the past, and decided that she indeed forgotten. "I will feed him when I get back," she said nodding. Mei had never meant to neglect her poor bunny, but she was so forgetful and Jacob so reliable that the responsibility of feeding the animal somehow became Jacob's. It was if he had a rabbit of his own except he didn't get to enjoy any of the good points. Or, at least he didn't get to enjoy them as much as Mei did.
In all of her attempts to be helpful, Mei ended up knocking Jacob off of his feet. Her eagerness had practically pushed him over and as he fell she stood helplessly watching over him. "Jacob," she frowned at him for a moment then turned away, unable to look at him. Grabbing a few tissues, Mei cleaned her fingers off awkwardly, the distressed expression having yet to leave her face. "I'm sorry," she said softly, stealing glances at him out of the corner of her eyes. "Do you want help up?" she offered, perhaps a little frightened to touch him at all. She was quickly becoming convinced she was good for but two things: making people feel miserable and getting in the way.

Well. Cooking really wasn't the most appropriate word. The chef, like everyone else at Xavier's, was a mutant. His power was food. He could pretty much make any food that he wanted to appear, so it was not strange to see students eating Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner or Belgin Waffles for breakfast. He himself had had two eggs, sunny side up and french toast with real maple syrup. One of the many perks of living at Xavier's.
So, when he walked in on Mei and Jacob, he was a little surprise. Jacob was on the floor, and Mei was standing awkwardly over him. "Um, a little mid morning wrestling?"

After deciphering his next proposal, Mei opened her mouth to argue, but thought better of it. He was ill, and he did need his rest but part of her knew she would forget about the bunny again. Plus, he seemed want to go. Smiling, she nodded, "Okay." At least if she accompanied him she would be there to coax him into lying down for a bit if he needed to. Mei nearly blushed at the thought of walking in and finding Jacob in her bed; or worse, her roommate walking in. She already thought it was rather odd he visited their room everyday to begin with.
Letting out a sigh of relief at his response, Mei moved to help him up. At least things weren't going quite so horribly anymore; his spirits didn't seem too dampened, which alone was a great weight taken off her shoulders. Grabbing his hand rather tightly - she was a featherweight, even compared to his slimmer frame - Mei was surprised by the sound of the door opening. She twisted, her face brightening significantly as she saw who it was. "Trist-" she started, distracted from Jacob by the other boy.
Perhaps that was the tragic move, because before she knew it she was toppling over after Jacob, landing on the pile of clothing next to him. Her cheeks burned scarlet, but as she looked at Jacob, she slowly began to crack up. His laughter was infectious and she caught it, laughing despite herself and how much Tristian's comment had embarrassed her. As their laughter died, Jacob apologized happily, and Mei smiled brightly at him. "It's okay," she chuckled, luckily not hearing the small put down that followed his apology. Oh, how she hated when he cut himself down. "Thankfully, you are messy," she directed at both of the boys as she took Jacob's hand and stood up. Brushing her bottom off, she looked around, feeling a little less out of place. Without a thought, Mei reached in Jacob's open drawer and pulled out a rather unassuming shirt and handed it to him. "Here."

He laughed along with the other two and made his way across the room to his bed. He frowned at it, noticing just how messy it really was. Funny that Mei should mention just how messy the two boys were at that exact moment. His bed housed several items, from discarded Sneaker's wrappers, to dirty socks, to his iPod.
He watched as Mei pulled a shirt out of Jacob's drawer, and then asked, awkwardly, "Er, what were y'all up to, anyway? If you don't mind me asking of course." He had to admit that he was rather curious, and couldn't help but ask.

Also, had she known Jacob thought she "truly loved" Tristian, she would have argued. Or at least, she would've argued if she realized what he was implying by "love". She had perhaps used it once or twice, but it had been on accident. To someone who was learning English, "like" did not mean the same thing as "fancy" and adding an extra "like" to the end did nothing to change its meaning. Love had been the only word she could come up with, and so she had used it. It was a school girl crush really, one that made her rather pink at the sight of him.
At Tristian's question, Mei had nearly answered when Jacob began to. Normally she allowed him to answer any questions posed to the both of them, but he was speaking so poorly that she thought she could do a bit better of a job. As Jacob began explaining, Mei had a seat on the end of Jacob's bed, folding one leg beneath her. It took her ages to decipher what he was actually saying, but when she finally did it warmed her heart. She had been afraid he wouldn't appreciate what she had done, considering it had gone so horribly already.
Mei had absolutely no idea what Jacob said next. She was entirely lost on everything, but as she usually did, she smiled hopefully. She perched herself on the edge of the bed, watching Tristian perhaps a bit dreamily. 'What're you up to?' was what she meant to say to Tristian, but unfortunately she was so caught up in watching him that it came out in very thickly accented Chinese. Bringing her hand to her mouth very quickly, she gasped quietly at her stupidity. "I mean...," she said meekly, not at all sure what to say. "Sorry," she finished, her shoulders rather slumped. Well, it would be interesting to see if things could get worse.
