Well, it was just this sort of weather that disappointed Mei. As much as she understood that plants needed the water, she couldn't help but resent how drastically it cut into her frolicking-barefoot-in-the-grass time. Cloud watching, one of her most favorite activities was simply out of the question; every time her eyes wandered toward the skies her heart grew only heavier. It didn't look like anything but rain, how dreary.

Despite all of this, Mei spirit's could not be entirely crushed. She sloshed around in her galoshes, marching right through mud, rather happily in fact. She simply loved nature, and love meant taking the good with the bad; she would just have to deal with the rain and the wet and the icky so she could be around for the sun.

Rolling the stem of a flower between her finger tips, she took in the wonderful scent as she made her way across the grounds. Her thoughts floated on the wind, blowing into her mind and out just as quickly. As she was lost in thought, she failed to notice Jacob strolling across the grounds and eventually having a seat with a girl who she did not recognize. No, instead she continued to mosey about, wishing occasionally that she had worn pants and not a dress with just her jacket.

Still walking with her eyes busy looking around or being shut, Meimei inadvertently walked right into the bench that the two were stationed at. "Oh!" she exclaimed not quite as loudly as an exclamation point may lead you to believe, opening her eyes suddenly and blinking a few times at the others. Had it been just Jacob, she would have smiled apologetically and had a seat with him. However, another girl was very much present, and Mei wasn't sure what to do. "Oh, sorry," she said roughly, flustered so much she was unable to hide even the slightest bit of her accent. She smiled hopefully at the girl, her eyes jumping occasionally to Jacob for help.

Paige looked over at Jacob, and smiled, only slightly sheepish at having been caught spying on children. "Of course I don't mind," she said, and scooted over to give him room. "How're you?" she asked politely. "Holding up okay in all the rain? I'm starting to feel almost wilted." She closed her book absentmindedly, and then felt slightly embarassed at having it made it so obvious she was NOT studying.

She smiled as they talked, and idly let her gaze take in the outdoors, pleased to have so much to look at. She noticed a girl heading vaguely toward them, in a zig zag sort of way, and focused on her without much meaning to. Paige was soon distracted by her, as she appeared to be wandering about with her eyes closed, and at Xavier's a little detail like that could mean ANYTHING.

Her expression was open and curious when the other finally opened her eyes and apologized, and Paige grinned at her. She noticed the girl's eyes going to Jacob, so Paige shot him a questioning glance as well. "Hello," she said. "Are you alright?" It was not perhaps the smoothest thing to say, but it just popped out.

Mei tried her very best to wipe the distressed look off her face, but this was some new and she had already made a horrible first impression. She winced at what the other girl was probably thinking, psyching herself out much as she usually did. Really it was with great surprise that the other girl seemed to be grinning at her. Taken back, Mei smiled back, nodding vigorously. "Fine, thank you."

As Jacob greeted her, Mei smiled, considerably more comfortable with this compadre. "Hi," she said almost silently, knowing that he would be able to hear her. Apparently he caught her desperate glances because he instantly started with introducing them. Relieved did not even begin to cover how Mei felt, and she stuck out her hand to shake with a bit more confidence. Though, that wasn't to say she could manage to keep eye contact with the other girl; Mei looked her in the eye for a moment or two, then suddenly away at something behind her or perhaps back to Jacob.

"I have time," she said warmly, happy to have been invited. She looked at Paige quickly for any sign of aversion and upon not noticing any, she had a seat. Mei sat rather close to Jacob for a number of reasons though mainly because she could hide behind him and not do much talking. Better to seem silent than stupid, she supposed.

As much as she wanted to hide the shadows, Mei's friendlier side got the best of her and after a few moments, she couldn't help but ask Paige a thing or two. "Do you like it here?" she asked slowly, trying to pronounce things correctly and be rid of her accent at the same time. She was not entirely successful, and embarrassed, she shrunk behind Jacob, wanting very much to crawl under a rock.

((Uhmmmmmm....wtf I fail. I AM SO SORRY I TOOK SO LONG OMG.))

Paige nodded and gave Jacob a small smile, happy to hear that he was feeling better. "I'm sure the weather doesn't help any, with colds. I usually like rain too," she was trying not to blush because he said she didn't look wilted; it had been an odd choice of words. She raised her eyebrows in surprise and looked at the kids again. "Actually," she said, trying to sound dramatic, "it's not their balloons I'm interested in." Oooooh, ominous.

She tilted her head to the side as Jacob introduced them, and offered the other girl another smile. She felt much more at ease than she usually did when meeting new people. It was probably because of she was very comfortable around Jacob, THIS new person seemed rather unintimidating, and, well....she'd just been doing so much of it, lately. "Nice to meet you, Meimei," Paige said pleasantly, and nodded her agreement to Jacob's invitation to sit.

"I.." she began, and then hesitated when Meimei disappeared behind the boy between them. She didn't really think anything of the girl's accent at all (yes, she noticed it, but she certainly didn't think anything negative about it). She thought perhaps the hiding had something to do with HER, or....maybe the girl's powers or something. It was impossible to tell around here. Sometimes mutants are weird. Raising her eyebrows briefly at Jacob, Paige gave a mental shrug and continued. "This is the best place I have ever been," she said firmly, and realized with something like delight that it was true.

Honestly, Mei was considerably more bashful than she would've liked. She wanted to meet new people and be as personable as she always was, but in her desperation to convince strangers that they liked her, she lost her courage. Though Jacob didn't think she could still possibly be embarrassed by her accent, she certainly was. If it was there, she was embarrassed by it and she had the inkling she always would be.

Though she was at a school for mutants, the fact that she had powers always seemed to be a side-note to the rest of her life. She didn't hide because of her powers and the fact she had almost total control over them didn't affect her either. Oh no, Mei's poor interpersonal skills stemmed directly from one thing: she was embarrassed by her heritage. Luckily, unlike most immigrant children who are raised in America, she didn't have her very Korean mother and very Chinese father hanging around constantly, wearing their nationality as if it were a badge of honor.

Hearing Paige's answer, Mei beamed, leaning out past Jacob so she was able to see the other girl. Well that was just delightful! A lot of the new students seemed rather...off color when they first came, and though it was three weeks into the year, Paige seemed to have adjusted quite well. At least she had made friends with the nicest boy in school! Jacob, that is. "That's great," she said merrily, perhaps forgetting everything else.

At the mention of a tree house, Mei sat back again, trying her best to decipher the meaning. A house, in a tree? A house, made of a tree? Scratching her head, she decided it must have been the first option, considering most houses were built out of trees anyway - well wood at least. "Do you have a tree?" she asked, excitedly. She knew most of the tress on the grounds, having given them boosts in the cold times of winter, and would've been pleased to hear that any one of them had been selected. At the same time, she would have been even more enthralled if they asked her to grow one for them - in just the right shape. She could do it, certainly, even if it would take a little while. Though she would've attended if it had only been Jacob, Mei was further enticed by the mention of the dreamy Tristian and two of her better friends Phoebe and Kase. Well! She simply had to go! And this girl Paige seemed awfully nice; wouldn't it have been wonderful getting to know her while building a tree house, whatever that was for.
