I cannot get enough of this story! I usually don't read WIPs because I'm impatient and always fear that I'll get sucked in only to have it abandoned (which I understand because fanfiction writers have lives too and I'm guilty of wandering off mid-plot on a couple stories myself). But this is just so...I don't even have the words. The mix of these fantastic characters with that particular time period is just brilliant. I love how the prejudice against sorcery from the TV show is such a good fit for the "Red Scare" and McCarthyism witch hunts. And poor Merlin's got the double whammy of being both a sorcerer and a Soviet agent. But again like in the show he's a double agent, turning against the people he was born like to side with Arthur. He's stuck in the middle, fanatics on both sides trying to destroy each other and he's all alone until Arther, and with Merlin's help Arthur begins to see the common ground in people he was trained to see as less then human. I don't think that the Cold War ever would have occurred to me when watching Merlin, but now every time I see an episode the similarities send me running back to reread this fic. The parallels and the way you've crafted this alternate universe just blow me away each time I read it.

The state of the world was also so...sad and hopeless at that point. The Cold War has been going on for nineteen years and there are still something like twenty-six years left. It must have seemed so endless for the people living then. You're an amazing writer, because that atmosphere of fear and anxiety, while at the same time allowing for life to keep moving on, comes through so clearly.

Anyway, thanks for writing this and for being so diligent in your research and your accuracy...and for giving me an excuse to listen to Otis Redding again. I hope you have fun on your trip, whether it be business or pleasure, and that you find lots of free time to write more! (Because I'm selfish in addition to being impatient ;p)

Exactly couldn't have put it better. She has done a fantastic job of getting that across and is one of the best elements of this story.

Also feel the same way about wip's but was so intrigued and she just totally sucked me in. I find myself thinking about this damn story all the time :)
