slicin' up eyeballs, i want you to know!

we had one last weekend hoorah before the business of fall term began. we weren't able to leave town until about 3 in the afternoon, and we had to be back by three the next day... but it was worth it. we drove to bend to see the pixies (with the decemberists and death cab for cutie), then went out with my brother and his girlfriend for a few drinks, retired to a hotel for the night, and hit the road by 10:30 the next morning to be back in time for both of us to make it to work.

the concert was great. i've never been so excited to watch a short, chubby, bald man. i love the whoops and barks that hardly seem like they should be coming from frank black. the decemberists were really good, though we didn't make an attempt to get closer/see them well. as death cab played, we got closer, but truly, they put on a boring show. i'm not much of a big fan, but they were fun to see.

the evening out in bend afterward was full of laughs will-farrel-imitating-harry-carey impressions. "hey! we all know that the moon isn't made of green cheese, but what if it was made of barbecue spare ribs, would ya' eat it then?" and "hey doctor! if you could choose between being the leading scientist in your field, or having mad cow disease, which would you pick?"

one last thing: i've been offered a position on an adult forensic unit in the hospital. i've been looking to get out of the program i'm in - i love working with kids, but the management has gone to shit, there is NO structure, and it's become a dangerous place. while adult, criminally-insane patients doesn't sound better, it's actually a lot safer (the kids unit is notorious as being the most assaultive/violent) and consistently structured. i think i'm going to take it, but i'm really nervous. fear of the unknown, i guess. i've never made such a drastic leap in the kind of work i do before - entering the unit for the job interview was the first time i'd even been in the building.

look, an updated journal!
