We have a new challenger!

We began with seven on Friday, September 26: me, Silly Vanilli, High Level J, Comedy B, Shortstop, Crossword, and Daring Jeff. Comedy B is a woman shortstop does improv with. Definitely not a math/quant type. She's still learning the game. Daring Jeff is a friend of Peter Rabbit I met at a party. He does financial hedging for one of the dot-com survivors (The company has operations all over the world, so it does business in multiple currencies. Daring Jeff made a lot of big semi-bluffs, so we eventually figured out that he was a better player than Peter Rabbit or Low C.

I took a medium sized pot from Daring Jeff early. I had A♥7♥ in the CUT, and six of us saw a A♣9♠2♣ flop ($1.50 in the pot). Daring Jeff bet $0.50, and I raised to $2.00. Everyone else folded and he called ($5.50 in the pot). The turn was the 7♠ and he checked to me. Turning two pair gave me more confidence, so I bet another $4.00. He called and the river was the 4♦ (final board A♣9♠2♣7♠4♦). I bet another $5.00 and Jeff folded. High Level J was sad because my raise made him fold 53.

I decided to respect Jeff's donkbets from the get-go, especially on dry boards. For example, on one hand, I raised to $1.00 with Q♠Q♦ and got Jeff and two other callers ($4.00 in the pot). The flop came K♦3♠3♥. Jeff bet $2.00 and the rest of us bailed. Maybe he was in there with a lower pocket pair, but at the time I thought he was in there with at least a king.

Silly Vanilli does some of the craziest things. On one hand, Jeff minraised to $0.50 and got four callers ($2.50 in the pot). The board ran out 7♠6♠3♣4♥9♠ and we checked it through to the river... where Silly Vanilli bet $4.00. Why, Silly, why? The only thing that's going to call you is a high flush, and someone might actually have it! Eh, whatever. Take it down.

Biotech showed up late and sat on my immediate right (me, Silly Vanilli, High Level J, Comedy B, Shortstop, Crossword, Daring Jeff, and Biotech).

I probably didn't get as much as I could out of this next hand. I raised to $1.50 with Q♥Q♦ in the HJ, and got a calls from Comedy B and Shortstop in the blinds ($4.50 in the pot). The flop came 6♠6♣5♥ and they checked. I decided to check for deception. The turn was the Q♠ and I decided to check again to give them a chance to make some semblance of a hand. The river was the 9♣ (final board 6♠6♣5♥Q♠9♣) and Shortstop led out for $3.00. I made it $7.00, Comedy B folded, and Shortstop called with K♥Q♣. The table was a little surprised when I showed my full house for the win.

My next experience with queens didn't go as well. I raised to $1.50 from UTG with Q♠Q♣ and got three callers ($6.25 in the pot). The flop came 9♥8♣2♣ and I led out for $4.00. Two of my opponents folded and Crossword called ($14.25 in the pot). The turn was the 7♦ and I bet another $5.00 as a bet/fold. He called and the river was the T♣ ($24.25 in the pot, final board 9♥8♣2♣7♦T♣). I checked and Crossword moved all-in for $10.25. Since every draw and then some got there on the river, I decided to pack it in and fold.

He would have checked top pair or worse.

I might have mentioned before that Silly Vanilli is good for at least one big boner a night. This time he had a few, ending with this hand against me. Biotech raised to $0.75 from the CUT and I 3-bet to $2.00 with A♦A♣. Silly Vanilli called out of the SB and Biotech came along also ($6.25 in the pot). The flop came A♠K♣5♥ and Silly Vanilli checked. Biotech led out for $2.00, and I minraised to $4.00. Both of them called and the turn was the Q♣ ($18.25 in the pot). Silly Vanilli moved all-in for $8.50 with Q♠3♠, Biotech bailed, and I snapcalled. Even if he did have JT, I still had the pot odds. As it was, he was drawing dead ($35.25 in the pot).

I posted a solid $23 that night, once again off of Silly Vanilli. My girlfriend is scared of him and thinks he's weird (He is weird.), but I like having him in the game because he means well and brings the action. He's not as bad a player as he used to be, but he still has a long way to go.

Daring Jeff did pretty well for himself. If I remember correctly, he posted something between +$40 and +$60. He promised to bring Peter Rabbit and some of his other friends back to the game sometime in the future. The rest of us couldn't wait.
