Big win

I hosted again on Friday, July 25. At the beginning, there were six of us: Me, Steamboat, Silly Vanilli, High Level J, Radar Chris, and The Pharmacist. On one of the first hands of the night, Silly Vanilli limped, Radar Chris limped, I checked my SB option with 6♠6♥, and Steamboatchecked as well. The flop came K♦K♣6♦ and I checked. I didn't think anybody had anything, so I wanted the others to see a turn card and maybe hit something. The others checked and the turn was the T♠. I bet $0.75 into the $1.00 pot and only Silly Vanilli called ($2.50 in the pot). The river was the 2♣ (final board K♦K♣6♦T♠2♣), I bet another $2.00, and Silly Vanilli called with a naked ten. I showed him my house and took the modest pot.

If he'd had a king, he would have raised and paid me more.

Three more people showed up and we were nine-handed (me, Crossword, Steamboat, Biotech, Silly, Jonboy X, J, Radar, Pharmacist). I limped K♦J♦ from UTG+2. Steamboat limped from the CUT and Silly Vanilli raised to $1.25 from the BUT. The others folded, I called, and Steamboat folded ($3.25 in the pot). The flop came K♣J♣8♥ and I checked for deception. Silly bet $1.75 and I flatted ($6.75 in the pot, $17.00 left in Silly's stack. The turn was the 9♥ and I checked again. Silly bet another $2.50, and I raised him to $6.00 flat. He called and the river was the 5♣ (final board K♣J♣8♥9♥5♣, $18.75 in the pot, $11.00 left in Silly's stack). He checked, I bet another $6.00, and he made the capitulation shove to $11.00 with J♠9♦. I showed him my better two pair and took the pot.

Chaser showed up and made us ten-handed for a while. Silly played pretty poorly that night, mostly because he was being distracted by some Marvel/X-Men game he was playing on his phone. On the flip side, after going on a tear, High Level J checked out early up $78. I was doing OK myself, winning a few medium-sized pots and building my stack up to $66.

Until roughly midnight it was me, Crossword, Steamboat, Biotech, Chaser, Silly Vanilli, Jonboy X, Radar Chris, and the Pharmacist. Then Chaser got stacked a couple of times and he called it quits. A short time later, Steamboat also took off and left us seven-handed.

With Biotech on the BUT, Radar raised to $1.50 from UTG with Q♠Q♣. The Pharmacist called and I flatted from the HJ with A♥K♠. Biotech, Silly Vanilli, and Jonboy X also called ($9.00 in the pot). The flop came A♦3♦2♥ and four players checked to me. I bet $5.00, Biotech folded, and Silly Vanilli checkraised to $15.00 with K♦Q♦. Everyone else folded and I reluctantly called ($39.00 in the pot). I was relieved to find that I was ahead (61.07% equity, dollar equity of $23.82). The turn and river bricked off and I stacked Silly again ($15.18 above expected value).

Silly Vanilli bought in for another $20. I think he was $100 deep that night.

I victimized Silly Vanilli one last time before the night was through. You can blame Biotech for this one. You can also blame Silly Vanilli himself. Biotech and Silly Vanilli limped in, I checked my option in the SB with A♦3♦, and Crossword checked his option also ($1.00 in the pot). The flop came A♥2♥2♦ and I led out for $0.75. Biotech called and Silly Vanilli called ($3.25 in the pot). The turn was the 4♣ and I bet another $3.00. Both flatted again ($12.25 in the pot). The river was the A♣ (final board A♥2♥2♦4♣A♣) and I bet another $10.00, hoping to get one call. Instead I got two: Biotech with a slowplayed 7♥2♠ and Silly with a slowplayed 5♠3♥. I showed my rivered house and took the $42.25 in the pot.

I had my best night of the year that Friday: +$88. When Silly Vanilli shows up with his D-game, somebody wins big. I'm just glad it was me for once.
