This post is for threading with Zuko anytime and anywhere. It can be used for Action or the Ring feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for 'placement' threads such as: someone left a present or 'by the way, come to this party on such-and-such' or the like ( Read more... )

[It's the day of the duel. Morning, in fact. Sokka has passed up his training this morning so he won't end up with any unfortunate injuries. He's done his stretching, a few drills, and he's now heading out to the barracks to meet Zuko for this duel. Time to settle who the real man of the house is!]

[Who the man of the house is, Sokka? That's already been decided. This is just confirmation. Zuko's out by the barracks himself, swords in hand and running drills himself. He barely slows down for a side-glance at Sokka. It's only after the drill is done that he acknowledges his presence.]

Ready to lose?

[Cocky, aren't we? Sokka just smirks and rotates his arm, ready for battle.]

I would be, if I thought it might happen.

Need another day or two to prepare?

Nope. But if you're worrying about needing more time, I might be convinced to let you off the hook.

Please. [Zuko would cross his arms, but. Swords.] I'm find. Never been better.

Good. So you won't be able to make any excuses when you lose.

[Sokka is finding his starting position now, while drawing his blade.]

[Zuko settles into his own stance, a sword in each hand.] I won't be the one needing to make excuses.

Then bring it on.

[He settles into a familiar stance as well. He's hoping to throw Zuko off by using the familiar moves he learned from Piandao before putting his new skills to use.]

[Familiar stances all around. Zuko starts the match, having absolutely no patience with posturing, with a fairly simple forward thrust. If you can't parry that, Sokka, he has no faith in you at all.]

[That suits Sokka fine. Even if posturing is the most important part of swordbending!

He parries to his right, keeping Zuko directly in front of him, and returns with a few horizontal blows. Nothing too difficult to deflect, but enough to try and push Zuko on the defensive.]

[... It's not swordbending.

Try harder, Sokka. Those moves are pretty elementary. Not hard to deflect. He's fairly certain he knows what Sokka's trying to do and doesn't really do much besides deflect. Let him think he's going on the defensive.]

[He knows Zuko is good enough that he could easily turn the match around if he wanted to. So at the very least it seems Zuko isn't underestimating him. He knows I've gotten better. But maybe he doesn't realize how good yet.

He'll abruptly change his tactics and go for a jab, straight for the head, followed by two more to either side of him.]

[Head jab, Sokka? Really? How unsportsmanlike. Zuko ducks and spins on his heels, effectively parrying the two strikes to his sides. He follows through with a low strike, aiming for Sokka's knees.]

[Nice one Zuko, but Sokka is quick to hop over that one. He backs up a few steps to give himself some distance, and then follows with a wide arc aimed at Zuko's waist, were he standing up.]

[You know what's sometimes better than leaping over something? Blocking it. It's a bit awkward, seeing as how Zuko wasn't quite standing when Sokka swung the sword.

... Which, of course, provides a perfect opportunity for a nice, friendly mocking.] Did you need another sword, Sokka?

[... He never claimed that it would be a particularly good bit of mocking.]
