http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/1674488/ Yes, this is a real news story in which a woman, Airman 1st Class Cassandra Hernandez, is being charged with indecent and deviant sexual behavior after reporting she was raped by three fellow airmen.
How are we living in a place where a woman SERVING OUR COUNTRY is made to feel -- by the Air Force, no less -- that she must be on the defendant's stand rather than the prosecution stand in her own rape trial? How can such blatant victim blaming occur, where a rape victim may need to register as a sexual offender? Where three airmen are allowed to go on record stating that, not only did she consent to sex (although there are witnesses who saw her running, crying and halfclothed from the airmen), but she asked for it by dressing and dancing promiscuously.
Are these people serious?
I implore anyone reading this to take a stand against victim blaming, and against allowing a rape charge to be dropped so that the victim can be charged with underage drinking. Contact Texas Governor Perry. As a public with a conscience, we must create a mass messaging campaign to force him to take a stand.
