ridiculous "Elder abuse cues"

Jul 05, 2004 08:34

I was reading the Metro newspaper today, and found the most hilarious article regarding children abusing their parents/grandparents...according to it, I should be in jail right now for "all kinds of abuse" sheesh...i.e..

Emotional Abuse
--> Ignoring important events i.e. brithday, Mother's Day, Father's Day
--> Behaviour coercively to the parent by withholding favours or affection
--> Being pessimistic about the future (and this has to do w/ our parents because?
--> Neglecting the parent's physical/emotional needs (what if we're not shrinks and can't read their minds?

Mental Abuse
--> Chronic lateness for events important to the parents ...uh oh...
--> Always breaking promises
--> Deceiving the parent into questioning their own sanity (LOL!!)
--> Deliberately startling the parent to unnerve them (pah...this is lame...why did they do that to us w/ peekaboo then?
--> Causing anxiety and nervousness with parent present
--> Ruining events by creating a scene/altercation

Physical Abuse
(most were ok but still...)
--> Invading the parent's personal space (sounds like kindergarten)
--> Throwing objects in the direction of the parent (even by accident?

Financial Abuse (THE BEST one of all..rofl)
--> Constantly complaining about being broke (what if I am? sheesh
--> Destroying the parent's property (too bad for me..accident prone
--> Being chronically unemployed or choosing low-paying and part-time jobs (well excuse me if we happen to be in school right now and can't land a CEO position w/ just a high school diploma)
--> Living for free w/ parent or getting him/her to pay for rent and household expenses (that's just ridiculous)
--> Having the parent make out a will, leaving child to inherit everything
--> Making parents declare child as sole beneficiary of life insurance

meh...a good laugh nonetheless..I predict everyone has committed AT LEAST one of these...by accident or what-not.....what are we supposed to be? saints? blah....societal standards nowadayz =(
