Freakin' sociology... help!

Oct 10, 2008 00:43

So we have to do an essay outline (which will be turned into an essay next semester) and we get to choose our own topic/thesis. What I wanted to focus on was fan culture. That's where I'm stalled at the moment. I have to approach fan culture in a sociological perspective... but I really don't know how. The material I'm finding is broad and I'm not sure how to even narrow it down when I don't have any sort of thesis.

Freaking TA is useless and fires an email back at me to find something that looks into "the issues of social order, and the intersection of biography and society (the sociological imagination)". THANK YOU for repeating what our prof's been spewing at us in class. I specifically emailed you because I couldn't figure out how to look at fan culture that way.

So I'm still stuck with a topic (aka fan culture in media - which I think i may narrow down specifically to fan culture in television), and no thesis. And an outline due Tuesday. Argh.

Anyone on my flist with knowledge of sociology that can give me a nudge in some sort of direction?

And no, I'm not able to watch 4x04 yet - it's still downloading. I blame this place for having shitty shitty channels.

No. Today has really not been a good day.

*deflates* I think I'll go finish cleaning the rest of my room and just curl up in bed. It's getting late.
