Ooooh this is very interesting :o I always just pile layer after layer on top and hope for the best, even if that means 40+ layers to make a simple close crop icon....
I used the Amanita cap and followed the guide, and I gotta say I LOVE this technique!! And I don't think I'd ever used a Linear Burn layer before, but I think we're going to become good friends now. THANK YOU.♥

this is amazing and you are amazing for sharing all this. YOUR PROCESS IS SO WEIRD AND AWESOME. How did you even come up with starting from the top layers?? that's just ingenious. I gotta try that sometimes but I'd be so freaked out by the blindness to how it will look in the end. And I love that you use textures for unnatural coloring. I feel super lazy now for mostly just using gradient maps which I admit is rather easy compared to what you do!!

It's seriously amazing to get to see some of your secrets. Thanks so much for sharing all this ♥

LMAO yes exactly, my process is so weird??? and once you get the layers and start playing around, it's not so bad, because you are not so ...blind :P

and noooo don't feel lazy for using gradient maps. i can't use them properly and that's why i stick to textures. i should try out gradient maps more often to get better :D

and you are absolutely welcome :D ♥

I have to admit that I actually cheered when I saw this guide because that Rick Grimes icon is one of my favourite things ever! It's really a weird way to proceed, but somehow it makes a lot of sense since you have a better idea on where everything is going to go! It's inspiring, thank you for sharing your tips with us, also, may I sugest you try "darken" as a way of blending textures? Especially on still coloured images, I like the sh*t out of it!

yayyyy i am so happy to hear that :D and thank you for the tip, omg i love darken, i use it not only on textures, but also on color fill layers when the subject is b&w, it makes them ~melt with the background and i love it *____*

thank you so much again and i'm glad to hear it's inspiring :A; ♥

"It's basically like when a kid takes 2 puzzle pieces and tries to smush them together to make them work, but no matter how hard you try, and how far you got, in the end, it doesn't even matter. it's just no dice. So you gotta be smart about that. You gotta be smart about picking your caps to blend. I'm not smart like that. I like experimenting to the point of moronic trial and error and I get a pleasant surprise...y'know, once in a blue moon."
I think I'll tattoo this bit on my back, is there a font you'd recommend? xD

No, but really, I loved it and I can't wait to try the reverse layers technique! ♥
