Around the world in 10 days.
Wednesday, I went from LA to San Antonio. We had dinner with Cat's friends and then went to the final game of her bowling league.
Thursday we boxed what little she had left to pack and then went to her softball game. It was very cute watching her play. Then we went drinking/dancing/pool playing with a few of her teammates. I learned the Texas two step and watched some freedtyling turn into a rap battle...which somehow ended up incorporating a battle against a lesbian and a threat to put a gun to a head...but all was well in the end and Cat's friends are quite sweet.
Friday we went to Dallas for the Sci Fi expo. We stopped for photos at this crazy closed-down diner in Italy, Texas...it is snapped like some Star Trek ship and is next to pods that people love in that looks like a giant caterpillar...photos avail on my facebook page.
Saturday was day one of the convention. Highlights included: meeting more of Cat's friends, an overweight middle aged woman rocking a spandex leopard print cat suit complete with face paint and tail, and having dinner with Joanna Cassidy....and being at a bar with The Candyman.
Sunday was Day 2: we had some great conversations with some Battlestar Gallatica actors and general fun times. We then packed up and headed for Louisiana so Cat could take me to meet her mother...I was soooooo nervous! We got there pretty late and I met Cat's mother and grandmother.
Ok let me take a moment to gush my Ode to Cat's mom. SWEETEST WOMAN EVER!!! Oh my god. Ok, I guess it makes sense that the nicest, sweetest, gentlest, most talented and amazing woman I've ever met would naturally have the most amazing mother ever..but oh my god this woman is just goodness and love and lovliness incarnate. It's just crazy. Anyway, I'm pretty sure she liked me...when I left the room and went to the bathroom she exclaimed "I love her!" and she told me today that she had been nervous to meet me too but then felt so comfortable abd relaxed with me from the beginning and when cat's aunt spent the day with us she told cat's mother that she had nothing to worry about with the two of us.
It was insane how comfortable she made me feel. And she almost made me burst into tears when we were talking and she said "well, you picked the right person..." and then paused and corrected herself and said "you picked the right family"
Seriously, I met her mom, grandmother, aunt and cousin and they all welcomed me with open arms. I'll write more later but now cat and I are going to watch "doubt".
