I didn't get a chance to make this entry yesterday:
On my way back from Walmart, I stopped at a red light. At the interesection a man was sitting on his haunches with a sign that read 'Homeless.' On a whim, I handed him some potato wedges I had just bought. You should have seen his smile. It broke my heart.. poor guy, so happy to get a bag of potato wedges. the light turned green before I could hand him some chicken. For the longest time, all I could see was his face. I wept as I drove away.
Later, I talked to Becky (wireworkelf) about it, and like Amelie, I'm inspired to become a regular do-gooder. I'm gonna buy some granola bars and keep them in my glove compartment for the next time. I can't count how many awkward, guilty moments I've spent at stoplights, avoiding eye contact because I don't have anything to give them and I don't want to give money. No longer.
