A great artistic force is dead.
Anthony Minghella died today. He is the writer, director, producer of the films The English Patient, Cold Mountain, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
His movies are heartbreakingly beautiful and perfectly crafted. I don’t even know what words to describe them, they are raw and beautiful and rich and inspiring.
Anyone who has never seen The English Patient should, it’s his greatest work and one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.
Multiple times, he was able to get out of his actors the finest performances of their careers. (Jude Law-Cold Mountain, Renee Zellweger-Cold Mountain, Ralph Fiennes-English Patient, Juliette Binoche-English Patient, etc.)
My next day off, Thursday, is hereby Anthony Minghella movie watching day...Anyone want to join me?
