Civil Rights

Wow. It's some rather strong language, but I'm not sure any other would quite express the right rage. Our government is at war - with us. By us, I don't just mean chicken-footed liberals. All the bolds are links to articles backing up the claims so you can do your own research - including in the war on terror: Catholics, Quakers and, as has been in the news much lately, phone users.

To balance the suckiness of the reality of the Bush administration, I had some very patriotic moments last night at a Disturbed concert - including an entire mosh pit crowd surfing a guy in a wheel chair on to the stage and, while there was a somewhat active mosh pit, the focus was above all on making sure nobody who went down stayed down. Even the most aggressive testosterone boys of the pacific northwest are helping their brothers up.

We need to challenge ourselves next time we lose a freedom for "safety" and feel appreciative rather than suspicious and angry. No matter how much I personally think disproportionate punishment for drunk drivers is a Good Idea™, I can't nod my head righteously when cops set up check points to check for drunk drivers at random, with no probable cause. Do I want drunk irresponsible people on the roads? Hell no. Do I want to check every car to make sure they don't kill my friends and loved ones while surviving unscathed? More than anything! But I promise I will never vote for such a huge civil rights violation. If I vote for that, eventually the cops are pulling my brother over for looking like a hippy or me for driving a hybrid because earth lovers are hippies and the profiling begins and the religious and racial persecution of minorities begins, and it's not our beautiful, well-divined country anymore.

We're good people, damnit, and we have a lot of civil rights violations at the highest level of goverment to undo.
