8:30ish I walk to Emily's
We walk down to the Crumpet Shop on 1st Ave
I have 2 fantastic cups of roobios tea, a honey crumpet, and a crumpet with almond butter, ricotta cheese and orange marmalade
Emily has tea, a pesto tomato savory crumpet, and a crumpet with honey, ricotta cheese and almonds
We find a Stranger Breakfast Guide, and determine to mark off all the places we've tried and will continue to try
Our goal for the day: photos of Emily in her
Rose La Biche hoodie for a photo contest; theme: urban + nature
We meander through Belltown
and stumble upon the Growing Vine Street garden
We make our way to PopCap and wait in the lobby for Michael
I borrow one of his issues of the invisibles and tell him he smells like babies
A discussion about smelling clean and/or making baby powder out of babies ensues
Emily and I make our way to the Olympic Sculpture Park
and she introduces me to the Neukom Vivarium which I had not before visited
We find a trail to the silver tree, which is the one thing in the sculpture garden that I consistently love
Now, being ever so convenient to Isilon, we demand that Jake comes down to the lobby
To attack hug him :>
He gives the best hugs and can lift either of us up like we're made of feathers and bird bones
We climb up Queen Anne via some of its many public stairways
and visit several hidden away gardens
and meander our way over to the hidden Macrina Cafe and Bakery for lunch
where there is a beautiful woman there with her toddler daughter and mother
alabaster skin, brunette, gentle face, blue eyes, tall tall, just showing a second pregnancy
and I tell her she has such a beautiful face
and the look she gives me says
she's quite forgotten what it is to be the focus of attention
and thank you very much
she's one of those innate mothers, maternal without suffocating, guiding without controlling
her mother is one of those innate not-mothers, badgering, suffocating, controlling
We stop in Queen Anne Books and Emily buys a "waterproof" map of the Queen Anne stairways
We stand around with the 2 women working there and discuss possible body image / body positive / body intro books for a 4-year-old
We review the map and determine to find the stairs that go down Garfield and connect to Dexter
We wind up on West Lake in the beating down sun
(we're both Sensitive when it comes to direct sunlight and heat)
We take the SLUT (South Lake Union Transit) to Denny
She introduces me to
One Bus Away - excellent phone toy for us bus riders
We ride the #8 home
I get in a quick disco nap
I meet (Neighbours) Tomcat for ice cream cones and we wander
Cal Anderson Park
Pepe's Garden
Volunteer Park
We talk about his boys, his wife, his impending work in Alaska
10th Ave back across to Broadway to Neighbours
The music is good, the crowd is strange
There's a brilliant dance mix of "Ride Like the Wind" that I need to own
Regulars are minimal: Tomcat, The Todd, Richard
I leave before 11, happy and exhausted
What a fantastic Thursday
