First impressions/relationship meme for Santana, and that's cool for Roxas, Sam, Asch, Simon, Luke, and Lightning as well.

The biggest thing about Santana is she's an incredibly lonely human being. It's an undeniable fact of who she is on a regular basis. So, some part of her wants someone who will continue to pay attention to her, not be incredibly threatening, and be safe, while not being someone she's embarrassed to be seen around. There are a lot of factors here! So, Maka basically fits all of them, and some part of her sees that Maka is actually like-an incredibly decent person? But there's a part of her that (admittedly) wants Maka to bend to her will and do what she wants her o do, but enjoys that she just doesn't, without being an asshole about it.

On a regular basis, Santana's life is basically trying to navigate social situations, and things are very simple with Maka. She's an ass to Maka, so Maka tells her she's being an ass, but they have moments where they're normal, like people talking. She wishes Maka was more shallow for gossip conversations, but at the same time, doesn't want that. It's like she wants to assert some way that Maka should behave, but I think if Maka ever tried behaving that way, Santana would actually be upset?

Their current thread is the first time where Santana is consciously realizing how much of an equal basis she has with her. Yes, she's forcing music on her, but it's a very intimate thing for Santana to do. She doesn't entirely get what I think is going on with Maka there (where she didn't get music so much that she felt insecure and looked into music for it), but she does get that Maka needs to chill out and just enjoy it. It's making her understand, or thinks she understands, that some part of Maka needs to feel in control, too.

But her own issues regarding that don't threaten Santana, so, like other people that Santana shows even a modicum of respect for, she's ... safe. She does see Maka as a friend, but would be hard-pressed to call her that. Right now, she's "someone she's keeping around." :x
