Political Omelettes

So UAF decided to deny the BNP leader from answering questions at a news conference.

Lets think this through.

So this guy is here to speak to the press. If hes as terrible as everyone keeps saying, surely the conference will just be more fuel on the fire showing how stupid/racist he is. But no. Now he gets to play the persecuted underdog in the press, and the press are giving it air-time. Splattering expensive AV equipment with egg doesn't endear your cause.

Much as you might not like him, he was elected fairly. If you want to be angry with someone, be angry with the current administration, the media, or your neighbours. Its not his fault he got elected, everyone gets only one vote. Denying the voters who chose him over others their right to democratic representation is despicable. Speech is either free, or censored. There is no middle ground.

By the way UAF? Nice dark-arts treatment of the facts there. The BNP did gain extra votes. They gained an extra 16.75% votes from the previous figures. An increase of 135,397 voters. And all it takes is ~80 people to drown out those voices.

I found Tony Blair to be a smarmy git and although Gordon Brown has a kind of blunt charm, he still comes across as a bumbling idiot. Do you think I would organise to have them pelted with eggs and shouted down? Do you think the police would let me?

We either have free speech, or don't. We either have democracy, or don't. I really can't think of anything I'm more disappointed in right now.

Disclosure: I considered voting BNP but decided to place my vote elsewhere.
