Whenever a mass shooting like the one in Colorado happens, people/politicians start arguing about gun control. What about what was going through the mind of the perpetrator that motivated him to do such a sick thing? Nobody ever says, "We need better ways to reach those in dire need of mental health services" when something like this happens. Nobody asks, "What is leading people to take extreme actions like this?" You can regulate the sale of guns, but you can't regulate people's motivations to use them in a demented way (or to obtain them in an unlawful way, just ask Mexico). We need to start looking at the cause, not the symptom. Innocent people's lives are at stake here.
Note: I originally posted this to Facebook but I wasn't sure if it would come across as too histrionic. So I thought about deleting it on FB and posting it on to here because I still think writing it was cathartic for me. But to my pleasant surprise, it was received well by people on FB
