Sorry to spam but I blame the fetishistization of cupcakes.

I like to think they can be rehabilitated and reclaimed, like the n-word.

Nigger you trippin'. They are useless ornamental little girl food, that grown women should not be concerned with.

Are you just bitter because they're usually full of gluten?

I'm actually making a real point about trends, fashions, lifestyle choices and capitalism by picking on something seemingly innocuous.

I see your point, although I still think there's room for something like cupcakes in a world that isn't so fucked up by all those other things. Cupcakes make a very good symbol for patriarchy, though, as you point out.

It's a series of small compromises...

Ugh. Eyeroll. I'm rabidly feminist, and I resent being told I'm not allowed to like something that's "infantile" because it involves "glitter, heart-shaped sprinkles, pink frosting", etc. Fuck that. I'm allowed to like it even though it's pointless and girly. I'm allowed to choose. That's the whole goddamn point.

I stick by my love of cupcakes, just as I stick by my love of baking just about anything ("cutesy, calorie-jammed", "nausea-inducing sugar-laden sponges" for "morons" or not), and remain grateful that the cupcake craze has given me a way to make money (mostly making them for kids' birthdays, as organized by their moms) on the side. What with being largely unable to find steady work that accommodates my health problems, I'm glad for the extra income, and the fact that I get to make money for something I'd be doing anyway as a favourite hobby is wonderful.

Cupcakes are silly and fun. You can go stick one in you ear! ;)

I am the only person I know who doesn't like cupcakes.

You are totally allowed to not like 'em. Everybody's got their own tastes -- I, for instance, do not care for ladyfinger cookies, macarons, or red velvet cake -- and I know other people who think cupcakes are major bleh, just like you. But I protest seeing a purely personal preference paraded as high-brow social commentary over which we should all be enraged, yeah? :)

The argument resonates with me.

It isn't highbrow, it's bitchy.

I see that.
