Today's monster is Michael Myers
The main antagonist of the "Halloween" series, Mikey was only 6 years old when he killed his older sister on Halloween night in 1963 and is locked in a mental institution. 15 years later he breaks out of the institution and returns to his home town, with his psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Loomis (played by the late, great Donald Pleasance), hot on his heels. Mikey sets his sights on Laurie Strode after killing several of her friends. Loomis eventually catches up with Myers in the Strode house and shoots Mikey six times, causing him to fall out of a window. Loomis rescues Strode and they go to see Myers' dead body, but find it missing. The second movie leaves off exactly where the first left off and introduces the idea of Myers being Strode's brother. It was originally supposed to be the final chapter of the series, with Loomis making the ultimate sacrafice and blowing up himself and Myers in a mental hospital. The third was a completely different movie that had pretty much nothing to do with the first two, and was met with lots of distaste amoung both fans and critics.
The first was shot with a budget of about $300,000, and was the highest grossing independent film until "Dirty Dancing" came out in 1987. It's also considered one of the father's of mondern cinema "slasher" films.
Fun fact: In the first, it's apparent that the most innocent teenager survives, as Strode refuses to smoke or have pre-marital sex. This was thought to be the reason behing Myers' targetting Strode, but the writer/director John Carpenter (of "Big Trouble in Little China" fame) says this was a complete accident.
