So I have to rant on this a bit--someone I work with told me today that "Thomas Kincaid is my favorite artist". Thomas Kincaid and the word "artist" are oxymorons. The so-called "Painter of Light" is nothing more than a marketer of kitschy (and not in a good way) collectibles. His "art" is done by minions in a factory--and he often charges beaucoup bucks for it. Yep. Step right up and pay for your gen-yoo-wine print (not an actual painting, mind you) that is sure to look beautiful hanging on your trailer wall.
Who buys this junk? People that have no idea what art is, apparently. I found this quote: "It's mainstream art, not art you have to look at to try to understand, or have an art degree to know whether it's good or not," said Mike Koligman, a longtime fan who with his wife owns Kinkade galleries in San Diego and Utah. LOL, I think that pretty much says it all.

http://photos1.blogger.com/img/222/948/640/reid.jpg I love this "reinterpretation of Kincaid's crap. The rats in the factory, running on the wheel to create the illusion of homey values that Kincaid purports to paint. In other words, what is REALLY behind his paintings. This whole bunch of artists took prints of Kincaid's and "reinterpreted it" into a show. I wish I could have seen that!
Oh, he also took a pee on Winnie the Pooh, outside the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. According to people who work for him, he "likes to mark his territory". Nice, eh? Peeing on Pooh! Isnt that against the law? It should be!
