I'd wrapped the two cherries on my tree loosely with pieces of metal screen, but I noticed yesterday afternoon that one of the coverings had been knocked off (we've had some stormy weather lately). The cherry was fine... then. But I didn't have time to put the covering back at the time, and this morning, I noticed that that cherry had been half-eaten.
Well, I figured that if nothing else, that was probably a sign that the other one was ripe. So I just plucked it, rinsed it, and ate it.
Yum.
It was smaller than the usual sweet cherries, and a bit more sour, but still had a very nice strong flavour. The pit was small in proportion to the fruit, and I'll have to see if I can get it to germinate.
And maybe next year, I'll have more than one cherry off the tree...
