Seeking hex tiles, blank on at least one side

I'm looking for some hex tiles to prototype a game idea that I dreamed up (literally (by which I mean "really", not "metaphorically" or "emphatically")).  About the size of Catan tiles; a couple of people have suggested that I get hold of some used Catan tiles and draw on their backs.  Blank tiles are available for purchase on-line but the shipping

Hmm. I need a total of 37 tiles for my first try; I don't suppose you have that many left..? And 2" across is probably a bit small for my needs; there might have to be too much stuff piled onto them. Cutting hexes out of cardboard will be my fall-back, if I can't find a source that's not too much expense and hassle.

I note a discrepancy between the description of the clock and the pictures in the catalogue and on-line. It's supposed to have 28 tiles, but all of the pictures show assemblies of 35 tiles: 3 each of red, yellow, and green; 8 black, and 9 each of white and grey. Which is correct?

I think you're right about using cardboard. Thanks anyway for pointing out the clock (and for offering your extra tiles); it's an interesting item.

You could ask a picture framing shop for matte board pieces. It's excellent heavy card, but thereby a little challenging to cut.

If they don't have scrap, they may have matte boards with damaged edges or in unpopular colours that they'd sell cheap. Matte board comes in large sheets. You use a matte board cutter to get the lovely bevelled edges, but for your use a razor blade or Olfa cutter is probably sufficient.

P.S. There's a brand of hex chips/crackers available. I've done nachos of Catan with them.
