i just saw 'the harder they come' with rick and pete. uncle charlie hyped it up and it didnt really live up to it. the 'incredible reggae soundtrack' was really just three or four songs used to enhance the emotion of the scene, which is dope. i thought it was gonna be all about the movement though and it was really about getting into the whole drug scene and losing yourself. well, not even that. it was about effort. one of the songs that kept repeating was something about how if you try hard enough you can reach any goal, and thats pretty much what he did. he wanted to be famous and have cash and he did, then he fell, hard. the harder they come the harder they fall. and thats the hook in the song he recorded in the movie.
my thumb is messed up because i went to grab a cymbal today and it went under my nail and cut me, so every time i hit the space bar im like AH. which obviously, is alot.
i heard this band i didnt really like until today "..and you will know us by the trail of dead" and it grew on me. i was listening to this one song and feeling all these emotions from the whole vibe of the album, it was dope. but anyway, i realized the connection between reason and emotion while listening to it. reason is saying "yea, one day well probably break up and well be sad because parts of us still desire each other but well get over it because the right path is moving forward and getting over it. emotion is saying "this will last forever because were in love (then when it ends(not saying it always has to)youre super bummed out and get lots of good art and stuff out of it and then move on)." emotion is faith in the impossible or improbable. it goes for everything. yea, if i dont make it music wise, i could be poor and miserable. or i could just work really hard and have a bunch of hope and make it happen.
but
the harder they come the harder they fall. hence the super bummed out-ness afterwards.
but thats emotion, thats pain, sadness, sorrow, desire. it needs to be felt, its what makes us human.
so yes, the impossible may turn out to actually be impossible, we may lose our arm to baracudas, the love of our lives could leave us.(this is reason and reality)
but love is possible, and love is the source, since everything came from love, everything is possible. that is faith and hope and emotion.
happiness minus reason = emo kid victim who is a hipocrit and thinks everyone is out to get him.
happiness minus emotion = nihilism, which takes O SO MUCH effort.
o yea that movie also made me remember why i love reggae. if only i could SKANK.
and for the record the i threes have some of the coolest harmonies ever(along with the borth/sheets/embree vocal jaont in rx bandits).
PLUR.
