Pairing: Tsuchiya x Hyuuga (xTake)
Summary: The more friends the more comfort, right?
“What’s with the gloomy face?“
Hyuuga pinched his cheek and pursed his lips in order to mock the obvious pout on Take’s face.
Take looked up from his fingers at which he’d been staring for over half an hour now and finally noticed that he wasn’t alone anymore. The whole bunch obviously had decided to show up in the little café which wasn’t too surprising because they spend most of their free time here anyway.
The empty spaces next to him on the couch were quickly taken and instead of squeezing down at the end Hyuuga just took his seat on Tsuchiya’s lap who didn’t even try to protest because it was no use anyway.
“Couldn’t be arsed today?”
Tsuchiya gave him an encouraging wink and kept on fanning his face though he rather messed up Hyuuga’s hair than anything else.
“Hey, watch it, Tsucchi!”
“This is what I do. Accept it or get off me.”
Now it was Hyuuga’s turn to pout.
“Just be a little gentler.”
“Why does everything you say to him always sound so damn gay?” Hayato tossed in with an irritated frown on his face.
Tsuchiya cocked his head to one side with a smirk.
“Jealous, are we?”
“As if!” Hayato snarled.
“And what are you looking at?” he snapped at Ryu who just shook his head and rolled his eyes at him.
Usually, Take was more than happy to have his friends around who managed to cheer him up no matter what was wrong with him but today was different. Today sucked! Well, actually it had already happened yesterday but he could still feel the aftereffects pretty clearly. Right now he just wanted to be alone and wallow in his own self-pity.
“Yankumi was worried because you didn’t show up all day.” Hyuuga tried to pick up the subject again.
“Didn’t feel like it...” Take mumbled and got up from the couch leaving his buddies staring at him in surprise.
“Gotta go. See ya.”
“Hey Take!”
But he didn’t turn around again. He knew he was behaving oddly and they had no idea why but he just didn’t feel like explaining.
The riverbank would have been his usual next choice but of course he wouldn’t be alone there for too long either. He really needed to get his own hideout spot just for himself. Until then he couldn’t think of anywhere else but his own room. Hopefully, his mom would refrain from pestering him at least for today.
To be on the save side he locked the door, slumped down on his bed and put on his earphones to block out any disturbing sounds. Maybe the music that filled his head now would manage to distract him from all those dark thoughts that loomed around him like a huge thundercloud before lightning.
“Why don’t we just ring the bell?”
“He wouldn’t open the door anyway.”
“But why would he open the window then?”
“Because I’ll yell at him and if he still doesn’t obey… well… and glass is easier to smash in than doors.”
“Tsucchi~”
“It’s just the fire escape. Come on!”
“I don’t want to get into trouble again. If I have to listen to one more of Yankumi’s lectures I swear I’m gonna run out screaming.”
“Would be interesting for a change.”
“Idiot”
“We’re already there anyway. Bit late to go back, huh?”
They had reached the window to Take’s room and both peeked inside to try and find out whether their friend was home or not.
“Look, he’s wearing earphones. He won’t hear us.”
“Depends on the way you knock...” Tsuchiya replied before he started banging his fists on the glass without any hesitation whatsoever.
“Oh my god, Take, open up! He’s going insane! Tsucchi, stop it!”
It took another five minutes before Take actually noticed them. Not because of Tsuchiya’s attempts to smash in his window but because of Hyuuga’s desperate waving and jumping around trying to get his crazy giant friend to stop.
He got up from the bed and opened the window.
“What the hell are you doing?”
Hyuuga didn’t bother to reply and just climbed inside with an exaggerated sigh.
“I almost died out there!”
“At least it worked, didn’t it?”
Take was still staring at them with knitted eyebrows obviously not too delighted to see them.
“Yeah yeah, we know. You want to be alone. Don’t want to bother anyone with your petty little problems.”
Tsuchiya slumped down onto the bed and got out his fan again which he had put into the pocket of his jacket because it would have spoiled his awesome window banging.
“Screw that! We won’t leave until we know what’s wrong with you so you better make this quick and spill it out or we’ll be here all night.”
“Exactly!” Hyuuga added and gently pushed him towards the bed.
“It’s nothing…” he said and sat down with folded arms not looking at either of them.
“Sure. That’s why you look like you’re gonna burst into tears any moment now. If there’s no onion pie waiting for us in the kitchen I won’t believe a bloody word you’re saying.”
“Onion pie?”
Hyuuga flipped his index finger against Tsuchiya’s forehead with a soft chuckle.
“Yes. Onions… tears… get it, silly?”
“Oh… of course!”
“He doesn’t get it.” his friend whispered and patted Take’s shoulder.
“Is it about Maki-chan?”
“Yeah, what did that stupid chick do to you?”
“She’s not stupid!”
Take’s fingers automatically curled into fists at the insult and he glared at the taller boy in fury.
“So this is about her. Tell uncle Hyuuga what happened. It’ll make you feel better.”
“You sure you’re not auntie Hyuuga?”
“… And uncle Tsucchi will listen to you, too. He’s a little dense you know but all in all he’s a good guy.”
“Who’s dense?”
Hyuuga’s laughter filled the room and with it the tension between them slowly began to fade.
Take kneaded the fingers that were resting in his lap and didn’t look up when he finally started talking.
“I waited for her after work yesterday. When he she finally came out with one of her colleagues I mustered up all my courage and approached her. I asked if I could talk to her for a minute and that other girl looks at me with this weird expression on her face and goes like “Who’s that guy? Your little brother?” and both started laughing.”
Tsuchiya just growled while Hyuuga sympathetically patted his knee.
“Anyway… I got a little irritated and kinda yelled at her and then Maki-chan got mad and told me to leave them alone and… I guess she hates me now.”
“And she is stupid…” Tsuchiya mumbled under his breath though Hyuuga managed to cover up his remark with a fake cough followed by a slight dig in the rips.
“I’m sure she doesn’t hate you because of that. It was just a misunderstanding, right? Just talk to her and everything’s gonna be fine.”
“And if not.. who cares? She’s not worth it anyway.”
“Tsucchi! Not helping…”
“I’m just saying-“
“Shush!”
Hyuuga wrapped an arm around Take’s shoulder and pulled him closer so that his head was resting on his chest.
“It’s gonna be fine.”
“You said that already.”
“That’s because it’s true. You can never have enough of the truth.”
“Says the guy who told his mother he was going to the shrine on Sunday when he was actually playing pool in the arcade.”
“Just shut up and give me a hand here, you big fanning jerk.”
This time Tsuchiya actually did as he was told and crawled onto the mattress behind them to pull them both into a tight hug.
“Ouch! I forgot your hands are more like the paws of a grizzly.”
“I never heard you complain about my hands before…”
“Well, when we’re alone you-“
“Too much information, guys.”
“I always said we should let you in on the fun but-“
“What? I never said anything against it!”
“Guys!”
“Anyway… just relax and enjoy. He’s actually pretty good at it.”
When he first felt Tsuchiya’s big hands on his shoulders, Take was worried for a second that maybe his friends thought strangling was a good solution for a broken heart but when his fingers started moving over his sore muscles with surprising gentleness his body instantly went limp and he closed his eyes.
“Can I do your hair?”
“Hmm?”
His mind was slowly loosing focus. Damn Tsucchi…
“It’s all messed up. I’ll fix it.”
Hyuuga ran his fingers through his hair, adjusting hairpins and gently pulling strands of hair into place sometimes sliding down a little lower stroking the sensitive skin around his neck.
The whole situation was just very weird but it actually felt too good to say anything about it. Of course it would have been nicer if Maki-chan were here right now instead of his two best friends but he couldn’t really complain. Instead he enjoyed the pleasant tingling on his skin and a little satisfied sigh escaped his lips.
Tsuchiya’s low chuckle vibrated on his back.
“That good, huh?”
“Mmmh…”
“Keep going for another half an hour and he might change his mind.”
“On what?” Take managed to mumble with hardly parting his lips.
“Never mind…”
