The Quest
Wilbur Smith
I am so happy for Taita by the end of this book, I want to cry. Everything that had been denied him he gets to have back, thricefold and then some. Inbetween fighting an evil Long Liver named Eos and saving Egypt from starvation and returning the Nile River to her natural state, Taita gets back everything he lost early in his (now immortal) life. First, he finds the reincarnation of the woman he had loved and lost, Queen of Egypt, Lostris, this time reincarnated into a lovely young woman named Fenn. Then he gets his manhood restored to him. Finally he gets his youth back because of the novel's version of The Fountain of Youth (called the Font here) before it gets sucked back into the earth. He's not only young again, with his manhood regenerated, he gets to be with the soul he fell in love with in her last life but could never have. I snickered when Nefer Seti keeps asking Taita who she is until finally unable to take it anymore, he assumes the Almighty God I Am Pharaoh Hear Me Roar! attitude to make Taita tell him. XD Gotta love it. Reading this series out of order has not diminished nor lessened my understanding. Everything falls into place so neatly. It's actually refreshing to have a hero who we get to see love the same woman in two of her lifetimes so much he refuses to love anyone else until he has found her again wherever she may reappear. To me, that is love: waiting around until the one you love comes back to you no matter what form he or she may take. :)
