okaiiii so I'm a movie-holic, and will watch at least one movie a week. and i got a list of movie which I CANNOT wait for, some are still in production, but once they come out, im first in to see them. So here's a recap of what my personal thoughts were on some of the big movies in the past 1-2months.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND: I had been looking forward to this movie for 2 years. And I don't know whether it was all the spoilers I read beforehand or the predicatble storyline, but I was slighly bored in the movie. And I probably should let you know that I am a massive Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan, and this was NOT their best collabortion. I think each character in their own sense was amazing (excpet maybe the white queen, she was irritating - i dont quite know the storyline to alice through the looking glass, so I dont know whether it's the character herself or the way Anne Hathaway delivered it, but White Queen was really irritating me throughout the movie). The CGI was great, a very beautiful world was created - ofcourse Tim Burton like, but still quite pretty. The Jabberwokkee was a piece of art itself. And still the movie had two weak points, possible three: predicatble storyline, poor 3D effects and not necessarily aimed at the younger audience. 7/10
AVATAR: on word to describe it - BIG. or MASSIVE. the movie is almost flawless. I am havign trouble to describe it in a way that noone else has described it, and i am having trouble, because evrything's been said. There is a reason why it is the highest grossing film of all time. Other than the predictable storyline. the only flaw. 9.5/10
BLIND SIDE: its funny, that even up to the end of the movie I thought oh yeah, this is a typical hollywood ending movie. Until I realised its based on a true story. so human kindness does exist. and that made me feel happy. sooo thats the review on the storyline - interesting, life-based, predicatble BUT based on a true story. acting - well Sandra got the best actress Oscar award, and it was well deserved. I think she carries out the accent mighty well and portrays Ms.Toohey very beliavbly (excuse the spelling). The movie has really emotional moments, when ure close to bursting into tears and the next thing you know it turns into a comedy. I liked this balance, because otherwise I would've needed a box of Kleenex with me. There is no CGI, there is no 3D, there are no mountains, lakes, monster, NOTHING but good acting and an amazing storlyine. 10/10
HURT LOCKER: okai, I am probably going to get stabbed by someone, but really? 6 oscars? no. wayy too noisy, way too much shooting and bomb de-activating (or going off) for me, so much that I had trouble relating to the soldiers or their feelings. Look, the acting's great, and a well shot movie, another credit for all the non-computerised shots. But still, I thought the plot lacked development, or just hardly existed, and yesss, it is about war, but there have been many other oscar winning movies about war, it wasnt this noisy and they definitely did have a plot. and character development. 5/10
IT'S COMPLICATED: cute, funny, rom-com. easy to relate to, because it actually can happen to any family. I don't like writing reviews on comedies, as (this may sound rude) I don't take them too seriously. but given I did watch it, i will give it a rating BASED on how much I enjoyed it, rather than the quality of it. characters were quite beliavable anyway. 6/10
THE LOVELY BONES: hmmm...HMMM...to be honest, the whole movie i was ANGRY. I was angry that this kind of shit happens and criminals like him walk free. and because of the strong emotional storyline I never fully paid attention at the quality of the film. I think it was a good idea to have the "inbetween" world scenes, because personally if the whole film concentrated on the "real life" i might've chucked my coke at the screen from anger. I cannot write a proper review on this movie, other than to say that the it did emotionally affect me and for that I give it credit. my mark is based on the plot, not on the quality of the actual movie. 8/10
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG: ahhh how much I missed old disney. its just so much more enjoyable to watch the old school cartoons, there's just magic about them. not so much about this one though. I don't know whether it was the fact that for the first time I was watching a disney cartoon for the first time as an adult or that this cartoon lacked that bit of magic. I still did enjoy it, I enjoyed the little songs that the characters broke into every now and then, and the little cute animals that talked and accompanied each other, and the prince charming, and the happily every after. But I think it might've been the fact that it was not based on a well known tale, like, say, the little mermaid, or cinderella, or the beauty and the beast. Because the quality of the cartoons, music, voicing, none had changed. just the storyline. not easily recognisable. but then again neither was lion king. I cannot quite make up my mind, maybe you could watch a dvd and let me know? 6/10
SHERLOCK HOLMES: Too much going on in this movie. too many killings to connect together. a new character keeps popping ouy from here or there. or new clues. just like the book. at the end though it all glues together. some of my friends thought the movie was a mess, i thought it was just fun to watch. I watched it in a drive-in, so didnt concentrate too much, but from what I did see, I just...enjoyed it =) maybe i'll post a more detailed review once i watch it on dvd one more time. 6.5/10
SHUTTER ISLAND: soo some say its amazing and some say this was scorsese's worst flick. Personal opinion? I couldn't go to the toilet because I didnt want to miss a second of it. Its not a horror, it a mystery. a GREAT mystery. you keep thinking all these things, suspecting so and so, kinda like agatha christie, but more entertaining. Leo of course is at his best, great acting, VERY believable. If you had read the book, the ending's ruined. If you haven't, some people, like me, still walked out of the movie going that was great and well done. BECAUSEE i know the ending was ruined compared to the book, im going to give it a 9/10.
THE WOLFMAN: oh god, i LOVE Benicio del Toro. BUT what in the world was this? I dont even want to waste my time writing about this movie, it was quite bad. The storyline develops wayyyy too fast to absorb anything in, the wolfman outifts look like they're out of a bad 80s horror flick and its abit too gory, rather than a story about a "legend" believed to exist. and the ending was just disgustibgly typical. Benicio's character wasn't believable. The scenery and the sets were pretty, and thats about IT. 3/10
Okaiii that's just some of the main ones that I could remember watching, but don't take my word for it. Go watch it yourselves, and keep me posted with your own opinion =) I'd love to know!
