Hi everyone, hope you all had a great holiday!
Sorry I've been so lazy with updating. It just means I have much longer posts to write. x.x
Last Sunday Bri and I got our hair cut! The salon is such a chill place, I just hung out and read a magazine while I waited, they gave us complementary tea and everything. We had to take the bus there and back, because Bri's car slid off the road and got stuck in a ditch that morning (she and the car are all fine though, thankfully). It was kind of fun riding the bus with her, usually I have no one to ride with. Of course Bri and I can have fun doing pretty much anything, even waiting for the bus out in the cold. Then we went back to my place, ordered some food and watched a movie, and chatted with Patience on the phone, whom neither of us has seen in way too long.
I went to my parents' house for a couple of days before Christmas and got to see Felix and Armand, because Mando came back to visit for the Holidays. I can't believe it had been three years since the last time I saw him! We played DDR (just like we always used to, hehe), and watched some episodes of Firefly, which I hadn't seen before. We also went for Chinese food, which was Mando's treat for us for Christmas, so thank you again! <33
We ate dinner at the restaurant and talked about how weird it was thinking back to childhood. None of us knew each other until we were teenagers, but it was interesting to think about how much we'd all changed since we were kids, and how surreal it is looking back on elementary school years.
When we got back I watched Mando color a picture he'd drawn. He's always been a talented artist, but looking at how much better he's gotten since I'd last seen him was so impressive; his art has gotten so much smoother and well-defined, and his coloring skill is astounding. I'm so proud of him for going to art school and going after his dreams. Someday maybe I can be half as good at drawing as Mando and Felix are.
The day after that I hung out with Rob, and we went Christmas shopping together with Mom and Grandma. I tried this "Bawls" energy drink Dave told me about, so the whole way back from Rob's before heading to the mall was filled me and Rob making ball jokes, ("Would you like to try my bawls?", "Your bawls are quite tasty.", "Quit gripping your bawls like that!", "Don't spill your bawls all over the car!") which I think drove Mom crazy. But hey, when I asked Grandma if she'd like to "try my bawls", she thought it was pretty funny! Oh and earlier in the day when Mom asked me to play Scrabble with her and Grandma, Grandma and I had a laugh because the only word I could make with my letters was 'shit', then with the 'i', Grandma made lice, and later I made 'vodka'. Mom was embarrassed, I guess she'll rethink badgering me to play Scrabble again. And of course this time I had the most fun playing it, and I bet Grandma had a lot more fun than usual too.
At the mall, Rob and I wandered around and talked about various things. It was really crowded (the day before Christmas Eve, so that's pretty much a given), but since I was in good company it didn't bother me at all. After shopping around we got some pizza with Mom and Grandma, then met with Hutch at the bookstore, hung out for a while and even found a lolcats book.
Since we're both 21 now, Dad said we can hang out in his basement bar and have some drinks, so when we got home, Rob and I sat back and had a couple of beers, talked about college and writing, and laughed about our high school days. I think we ended up staying up til 2am, but it was cool because I hadn't seen him since summer break. He's going to Italy soon, so I hope he has an amazing time!
I went back to Ithaca the next day, because Brianne was kind enough to give me a ride. Before that, we exchanged Christmas presents, and she gave me a Sailor Moon alarm clock that plays the Sailor Moon theme then shouts at you enthusiastically to "Wake up!", and says "Good morning!" when you stop the alarm. It's so cute! Weirdest thing though, I noticed that the Sailor Moon clock's voice sounds a lot like Brianne's! o_o She also gave me some lovely bath & shower stuff, and a neat little backpack as well.
Oh, before we left, Emily stopped over and gave me a pair of purple and silver moon earrings and a little ceramic pug figurine. (I ended up wearing the earrings for Christmas! ^^)
We got back to the apartment and met up with Jordan, then went out to Arby's, then we all did some 'last minute' shopping together.
On Christmas Day Jordan and I woke up at 7am and opened our Christmas gifts to each other. He got me new the new Apocalyptica album, "Worlds Collide", both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and a Borders gift card. I was so happy and really surprised! He's such a sweetie. <3
Oh and I also got the book "Tales of Beedle the Bard" from Brian! I need to give him a huge hug next time I see him!
We went to Jordan's Mom's house at 9, and she gave us a Chinese cook book, a wok, some wooden cooking utensils and fancy sake glasses. I told her she and the girls are totally coming over for dinner sometime! I can't wait to try out some new recipes!
Around 10am we went to Jordan's Grandparents' house. As usual I was really shy, but I felt a little less anxious this time around for some reason, I guess I'm getting better about that. I got a fuzzy blue blanket and a gorgeous bracelet from his grandparents, as well as a stocking full of candy, a music box, and an umbrella. His Aunt and Uncle got me a brand new muffin tin and cookie sheet, which I will be using the first chance I get! Jordan got a "How to cook Everything" book, an aerial photography book and a remote control helicopter.
Later Jordan, Sierra and I went for a walk, took some pictures and played on the ice that had frozen over the little stream and puddles in the back yard. After that we played with Jordan's new helicopter, had dinner and said our thank-yous and goodbyes. All in all it was a great Christmas.
I'm sorry I'll have to end on a more somber note, but I have to mention that Eartha Kitt, singer of "Santa Baby" and the actress who played Catwoman in the 1960's Batman show, died on Christmas day this year. She was 81 years old, but she was always young at heart, and was a very energetic, positive person for all of the years that she lived. I've been a fan of hers for many years, and I know she is certainly missed.
Rest in peace, Eartha Kitt, "The most exciting woman in the world".
