6. Rain - Madonna

"Dance with me," Hotaru whispered, and Sephiroth couldn't help but obey. She drew him out from underneath the shelter, into the pouring rain. In the distance, thunder rolled, but it was almost comforting, like the rumble of the general's breath in the senshi's ear as she rested on his chest.

Like a child, Hotaru spun under the downpour, flinging her head up and letting the droplets hit her upturned face. Around her waist, she felt his hands move, then suddenly lift her into the air as he followed her graceful movement. She arched her back, exulting in the feeling of height, before Sephiroth folded her down against his chest. She reached up and kissed him, reveling in the moist taste of his lips, and from his groan, she could tell he savored it just as much.

When their lips parted, she felt warm water on her cheek. She wasn't sure where it had come from.

7. Temptation - The Tea Party

Hotaru couldn't believe it. They were all waiting out there for her... the Senshi were waiting for her to make everything right. Bobraknia was out there... she had to face him. She had to get out there.

And yet she was being stopped by the last person she imagined.

"I don't understand," Hotaru whispered, her hold on the glaive trembling.

"It's very simple," Sephiroth growled, holding Masamune ready in a battle stance. "I'm not letting you go."

"I have to..."

"Don't fucking start." The rare expletive shocked her more than his battle stance. "Either you stay here with me, or I beat you unconscious and keep you here."

What shocked her most was how tempting either of those prospects seemed...

8. Heal the World - Michael Jackson

It was the same every time, Hotaru mused. The monsters would come, would fill the world with darkness, would litter the ground with the bodies of humanity. Then Sailor Moon would stand tall, wave her Ginzuishou around, and save the day. The monsters would disappear with a poof, the skies would clear, and all those pesky corpses lying around would pop up as if nothing was wrong.

It was a universal constant. Sailor Moon would always heal the world.

"So why is it that I'm the 'powerful' one?" Hotaru asked Sephiroth one day after she'd been thinking about it. "Why is it that, despite Sailor Moon having all this power of ultimate rebirth and good and fluffy puppies, I'm always the one who's seen as the powerful one, the one above and beyond all the others?"

Sephiroth grimaced. "I suppose... it's the sort of power you wield." He mused a little. "To the Inner Senshi, making everything better with the wave of a magic wand... it's something they can understand. Or at least, something that they can accept."

Hotaru sighed. "Who do YOU think is the more powerful?"

Sephiroth thought for a long time on that. Then finally murmured, "She might heal the world... but you healed me. I know which I think takes more power."

9. Mononoke Hime - Princess Mononoke

"Be careful," old women would whisper to their grandchildren in a hiss. "If you're naughty, the Queen of Saturn will snatch you up and carry you away. They say she's the princess of the monsters!"

Hotaru knew what they said, and accepted it. When you were the messenger of death, things tended to get... exaggerated. It didn't stop it from hurting though.

She was no princess of monsters. She had seen monstrous things in her life, done them as well... but she was no princess of monsters.

Of course, there was one particular monster who would call her princess, queen, wife... but then, he was no monster either.

10. Missing You - Kingdom Hearts II

A single brief kiss on his cheek, and she was gone.

Sephiroth felt her disappearance like a sudden stab wound. One minute she was here, trying to be brave, trying to tell him and herself that fighting Bobraknia alone was what she had to do... and now she was gone.

Sephiroth clenched his fist. No... no, she couldn't be gone. That couldn't be it.

He wouldn't allow it.

Clenching Masamune, he set out after her.
