Eco-crafters Unite!

I've been challenged to do an eco-activism project for school, and I'm wondering if anyone out there would like to play along.

My idea is to form an island "pod" for "sociable guerilla bagging" as outlined at http://www.morsbags.com/.

My only real deviation from their concept would be to expand the bag making into crafts areas where I have more expertise, such as knitting (and I've gathered several patterns for "market" or "string" bags that are easy and fast). Each member of the "pod" would, of course, be encouraged to craft in their area of choice.

For distribution, I was thinking of approaching (nameless health food store) to see if they'd perhaps display a rack of the free bags, maybe for Earth Day? If not (because it could compete with the bags they sell) then I'm sure we could come up with lots of fun "guerilla" ways to distribute them in the community.

Once I hear if anyone is interested in playing, I'll contact (nameless coffeehouse where crafty things often happen) and see if we can set up a meeting place/time. Maybe they'd even help with distribution!

My project term is only a few months, but if it comes together and we all enjoy it, then I'd be thrilled to keep it going. More reusable bags = less impact on our local environment.

Thanks for reading, and comment here to let me know if there's interest!

If you'd like to make bags for distribution but not come to any meetings, that's also cool - I can come pick up bags and distribute them if you'll help make them!

cross-posted to my_island, and gatherings/distribution would likely take place in Alameda, unless you'd like to take some to distribute other places!
