[He hears the word hero and is immediately curious as to who this apparent newcomer is, but he realizes that he recognizes the voice...]

Bunny?!

[bunnyblitz]

[His heart drops. The last time he talked to Kotetsu they had been arguing, fighting even. Enough so that Barnaby had decided to run away. Only to find out about who Maverick really was. He swallowed carefully and kept his voice steady.]

Kotetsu. What is this nonsense?

[justicecrusher]

[He notices that Barnaby sounds a little bit different, but shrugs it off.]

Okay, this'll all make sense once I explain it.

...actually, it probably won't. But I'll try to anyway!

[bunnyblitz]

[It was easier to fake it over the phone. He wasn't entirely sure how he would react if he saw his partner in person. He sighs, this time it holds a little bit of his familiar irritation.]

Please do. You could start with telling me where we are.

[justicecrusher]

Well, this isn't Sternbild. It's Mayfield. You've been kidnapped, and everything here is designed to make it seem like you've lived here all your life.

I've been here for two months now, but you wouldn't know that since time works differently here. [He laughs a little.]

It's good to hear from you again, though! I've really missed it back home. [Aaaand he still thinks everything is okay between them, since he's not really aware that it's possible for two people to be from different points in time.]

So I've noticed. [He's actually holding a photo of him and his "wife" on their wedding day. Looking at it makes him immensely uncomfortable. He didn't love this woman, how could he even think of spending his life with her?

Wait, if he had a wife here did that mean that Kotetsu...?]

So essentially we are in a place where we have no control over our pasts that we can't get out of where time doesn't even really mean much? [Fantastic.]

You've missed it. [His voice falls kind of flat. Sure, if he had his phone when he was in Mavericks office Kotetsu would have likely been the first person he called for help despite the fight but hearing those words come out of his mouth...It was painful to say the least. How could he have taken their argument so lightly?]

Really now? [And, of course, pain transfers easily into anger.] Because the last time I spoke to you back home you hit me. And were lying to me. Were you even really concerned, Kotetsu? Were you? Because it seemed like you were using me as a convenient excuse to quit your job

[At this point he's stunned, holding the phone away from his face and staring at it until he remembers that Barnaby is still on the other line.]

Um...I'm not really sure what to say. I-I never told you I was quitting...well, not yet at least. I definitely don't remember hitting you, either. Are you okay?

[bunnyblitz]

And you didn't back home either. I overheard your conversation you were having on the phone. You couldn't even trust me enough to tell me the truth directly.

[If he were thinking rationally all of this would seem very strange to him.]

No Kotetsu, I am not okay. I trusted you. I thought you actually cared. Not that it really matters. All I've been lately is wrong. Wrong about you, wrong about Jake, wrong about Maverick.

[By the end of it his voice was shaking. Whether from rage or sorrow would probably be a little difficult to tell.]

Bunny...

[He's still not sure what Barnaby is saying, but now he feels guilty that he's not taking the news of his resignation lightly...even though he can't recall telling him in the first place.]

Look, I really was planning to tell you the truth. I even had what I was going to say planned out! But you weren't around at the time, so I decided to wait. And now I'm here.

What you're telling me is completely different, though. Don't you think it's weird that I can't remember any of it and you can? Something's wrong.

[bunnyblitz]

But you didn't! You-

[He stops dead when what Kotetsu was saying finally hit home. He didn't remember. He didn't even stop to think that it might be this place doing this to him. His mind automatically flips over to what Maverick can do. When he speaks again, his voice is verging on frantic.]

Kotetsu, I need to see you. Now.

[justicecrusher]

Alright. Do you know where you are? I'm gonna try to find you.

[He automatically jumps to the conclusion that this is the town's doing and is on his guard now.]

[bunnyblitz]

I'm at my house. Hold on.

[He gets up to go look out the window to figure out what his address is, but that only takes a couple of seconds.]

748 Partridge Drive.

[justicecrusher]

I think I know where that is! I'll be there as soon as I can.

[bunnyblitz]

Right.

[He doesn't even bother saying to call him if he gets lost. He wouldn't be of much help. He then proceeds to hang up the phone and pace his living room. What in the blazes was going on?]

[justicecrusher]

[After hanging up the phone he immediately runs out the door, repeating 748 Partridge Drive under his breath while doing so.

When he gets to Barnaby's, he knocks loudly and waits for an answer. At this point he doesn't even care if this is a trap. He wants to know what's going on.]

[bunnyblitz]

[Barnaby quickly opens the door and ushers him inside, holding a finger to his lips.]

I don't want to wake that...woman.

[He closes the door softly and leans against it for a moment before turning and fixing Kotetsu with a searching stare.]
