The holidays are just around the corner, which means the shopping season is upon us. This year I've made a commitment to encourage folks to buy American made and/or handmade (wiith recycled products is even better, if possible). Please consider purchasing something for a loved one or friend...or even yourself.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/laprincessa Too many big corporations have made shopping for the holidays a "bigger and more expensive is better" attitude (some of you may even work for them, please don't take my encouragement as a bias against your job, only your company).
Most of the items you purchase these days are made in China - the number 1 importer of goods into our country. Our economy is not as strong as it was in its heyday, due to this. And many of the mom & pop stores you used to know and love have gone by the wayside.
I challenge and encourage you to re-strengthen our economy by buying American, American handmade or making handmade this year. If you look back on when you were young (if you're a young person, ask your parents) and think about the BEST times you had as a child or young person during the holidays, I'll bet the greatest times really had nothing to do with the most expensive item you received as a gift. I'll bet it was an experience; perhaps making ornaments for the tree, sliding down a snow-covered slope or receiving a handmade gift.
While I AM promoting my handmade gift page here, that's not the only thing I'd encourage you to think about - reach back and think about those really great times with your family and the best thing about the holidays wasn't who had the most gifts under the tree - but, the time you spent together cooking the holiday dinner, decorating the tree, making holiday gifts or ornaments and perhaps singing carols.
Share those moments with your family. And create new ones with them this year.
Consider buying American or handmade or make your own gifts this year.
If you appreciate this message, I'd appreciate you passing it on.
