It's beautiful. Breathtakingly surreal and gloriously gorgeous. Metaphorically, it's cinematic poetry, a ballet of swords and love. There will be Crouching Tiger comparisons but they are superficial. One of the things I loved most was the color and the subtle way it led to the truth. The costumes are amazing and the fight scene between Moon and Falling Snow is art. One could watch this movie without sound and subtitles and the cinematography alone would dazzle.
I will see the American release and I will bring a box of tissues as I sat here and sobbed. The plot isn't complex but the vested emotions and overall beauty of this film is engaging! And the ending is sad and anticlimactic but the moral of the tale is astounding. So everyone must go see Hero. Go, go, go! Or buy it like I did as it was released in China in 2002.
The soundtrack, by the way, is also great but it should be as it was done by the same guy who did the music for Crouching Tiger and that's sort of obvious. That being said, the theme is marvellous! I love it! So much so, I want you to hear it also!
Click here. Whatever it takes to go back to full time next semester. Why? Because I need a strong transcript. Why? For the $25,000 scholarship. Why? Because I'll need it when I study abroad in Japan for ten months. Yes, it's 2 years away but those positions are competitive. The more I look at the website the more I'm drawn to just staying in Japan to continue my studies there. I'd planned on specializing in domestic policy but I'd be a liar if I said Japanese-American international relations doesn't intrigue me. I suppose I'll see how it goes when I get there... in two years.
It's going to storm. I think I might lie down for a while and write in my journal.
