Well, thanks to Avast failing to catch a virus in a download despite the offending archive being explicitly and manually scanned, I was forced to re-install Windows again this morning

I appreciate the thought, but in my time in Tech Support I've really grown to dislike Norton products. And as a gamer, it uses way too much resources, to my mind. Thanks anyway!
I'll stick with Avast, it's free, almost always works, and isn't a resource hog. =)
Well, from what I've seen, most pay-for AV software is either bloated, crap, or both at the same time. Even with this getting reamed by win32.vitro, I seriously doubt subscription AV/firewall software would have helped any.
