A/N: I aged Hugo down more than most do. Since his precise age has yet to be given, I felt I was allowed to make him a bit younger than fandom-standard. :D

All was definitely well for Hugo.
He didn't normally like riding in the car, but it was so much better now that he had the whole back seat to himself. Both Mr Whiskers and Daniella the Dragon got a whole seat, like real people, and Hugo was careful to buckle their belts nice and tight like Mummy was always warning about. It was nice to sit in between them; they didn't kick like certain meanie-head sisters did. They also didn't complain when he swung his legs to make his favorite thumpy thumpy sound against the seat. It was a more pleasant en- enviro - environment with just the three of them.
But Hugo didn't share the sugar-free-lemon-ice-that-Daddy-bought-him-when-they-were-leaving-the-station with Mr Whiskers or Daniella, because lemons ices were very good for people but they weren't very good for kitties or dragons. Usually it made them sticky. And Hugo didn't want to get scolded. He wanted to eat his lemon ice. Rose probably didn't have a lemon ice. Or at least, not one as nice as Hugo's. Just the thought made him giggle happily and swing his legs some more.
He accidentally kicked the back of Daddy's seat but Daddy just laughed and asked him if was having a good time 'back there'. Hugo was, so he said so. Then he finished his lemon ice because it was starting to get all melty. He held out his only a little bit sticky hands, and Mummy took her wand out and made them tingle as she cleaned them off. Hugo was pretty proud that he hadn't gotten any at all on the seat. Rose always got it everywhere.
Soon the car ride was over (Hugo thought that maybe Daddy had taken one of his 'shortcuts' that Mummy said she didn't want him taking but seemed to like anyway) and they were back at home. Mummy sighed when they came in, so Daddy put his arm around her and Hugo covered his face with Daniella the Dragon because what Daddy did next was just gross. When it was over Mummy went to make some tea and Daddy pulled Hugo into his lap.
"Well, kiddo," which is what Daddy always called him, "You think you're going to miss your sister now that she's off at school?"
Hugo wrinkled his nose. He didn't miss his sister. Rose was mean and bossy and pinched really hard. Hugo was happy to be all alone with Mummy and Daddy. But when he went to tell that to Daddy, what came out was, "B-But she always kisses Mr Whiskers goodnight! Who's gon-gonna do that if she's not here," and then he burst into tears.
Maybe all was not as well as he had thought.
