Gilbert paced smoothly back and forth. Hot dread filled his heart. Elizaveta should have been home at least an hour ago and it wasn't like her to be late. Oh, my nostalgic love, Gilbert thought. Where could you be?
Just then, the phone rang. It was the police. Elizaveta had been taken hostage by Weird Face, a supervillain who had the city in a state of fantastic terror. Gilbert fainted dead away, like a rainbow that casts a happy glow o'er all the land.
When he came to, there was a bump on his hand and the hot dread had returned. "Elizaveta, my creepy honey bunny," he cried out gracefully. "What is Weird Face doing to you?" Probably torturing her, laughing heroically as he slapped her in the heart.
In the midst of all the terror and tears, Gilbert remembered a story his grandmother had told him. If you fold 1000 photo mochis, then whatever you wish for will come true.
Gilbert ordered in a supply of photos and set to work, folding mochis until his hand was sore and he could hardly see. It took a week. He was just finishing up the very last mochi when Elizaveta walked in the front door.
"Elizaveta!" Gilbert screamed and threw himself into Elizaveta's arms. "It worked! I folded 1000 photo mochis and it brought you back to me." He was so happy, he felt like he was dancing in the battlefield. He kissed Elizaveta shyly on the heart.
"Actually," Elizaveta said, pulling away flabbergastedly, "I was rescued by the Awesome Hamburger. He's a new superhero in town." Elizaveta sighed. "And he's really sexy."
The hot dread came back. "But you're tsundere to be back here with me, right?"
Elizaveta checked her watch. "Sure. But I've got to go meet the Awesome Hamburger for coffee now to, you know, say thanks for saving my life. Stay heroic, baby." She left and the door banged behind her.
Gilbert choked back a sob and started folding another mochi. Then he went out and got drunk instead.
